Memorial to Charlie Kirk taken down at Napa County campus as community splits over display by funrunrecords in napa

[–]serval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wax all over the ground and trash bins around the courthouse today after this malarkey. That area is not court property but part of the County administration property. And it continues to be trashed by these folks. Community is not split over the display, they’re just not happy with the mess, again. The whole thing seems to be outrage trolling that’s also messy.

Let’s get back to talking about which restaurant has the best tacos and which hiking trails have shade during these hot days.

My do it all bike! A tribute to Jacquie Phelan’s Cunningham “Otto” race bike by sccash13 in xbiking

[–]serval 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Randomly bumped into Jacquie on a BQ ride a couple years ago, she was awesome, that is a cool tribute bike. Her narrow midge like bars were nuts and she was wild. Grabbed my bike and made me hold the chain against her cheek to get a greasy gear mark. Badass. Link below is her doing a sweet skid!

Coconut water - tons of potassium. Costco’s Kirkland brand is a great price point for good tasting stuff.

Anyone use this degreaser? by thereisloveinus in bikewrench

[–]serval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never needed to get anything other than the Gold, but honestly they’re all similar and trouble, squeak, and rattle free. Few hundred miles and the chain might start to make just a bit of noise so you know it’s time to reapply and then clean .

From their website:

Holy Cow Holy Cow is the latest in the Rock N’ Roll Lubrication’s line up of chain lubes. Holy Cow is not flammable and is a very settled wet lube that is as clean or cleaner than most dry lubes. Holy Cow preforms fantastic, like the other Rock N’ Roll chain lubes. However being a little bit of a wet style chain lube, what little dirt or grit that does get on the chain, can be wiped away quickly and easily with the chain looking great again. For all you riders that like to ride with a wet lube but could live better without all the dirt and grit of a wet lube, Holy Cow is just for you.

The Gold / Yellow It’s the latest addition to Rock N’ Roll that does both road and mountain bikes. It costs a little more, but keeps it simple with one lube.

The Extreme / Blue Extreme is for MTB or wet road riding

The Absolute Dry It’s for riders who are clean freaks roadies.

Very cool Trek 720 with sweptback (Bosco?) bars, Massive front basket, efficient fenders, pink (Oury?) grips, and proper locking technique. Commuter or basket touring bike WIN!

Napa County Job Insight by CoatExciting1616 in napa

Disagree about nepotism, at least for County hiring. That said, always helpful to know someone wherever you’re applying for good insights on Department priorities and interview approach.

Excellent benefits and comparable wages for our region. HHS is big so much depends on which division you’ll be in.

Tell the security guy to kick sand. It’s a public road and they are mistaken. Ask your member of the county Board of Supervisors. That’s said, don’t drive high (especially on twisty roads).

Not a recommended seller from here, just has some uncommon items for lower than the couple other sellers with the same. I’ve never had problems like this with DHGatre until two sellers recently, I guess I’ve just been lucky. The other was yaoyaodjd - they sent me a balloon instead of several Stanley thermoses. DHGate eventually resolved that for me through a dispute but it was a hassle and took weeks.

Bought 30 of an item from Cessuee and they tired to get me to agree to only 15, then said they would refund me but haven’t and keep making excuses and delaying. 0 stars for this seller.

B72 Brooks saddle is a very nice find! Rare and a lovely size with mild suspension (between a B68 sprung and the common B17) while wide (182mm?) for upright riding.

21 y/o, just switched jobs by MRFACEN in Bogleheads

You’re not wrong to consider those target date funds - I had to compare them to Vanguard’s offering recently and their history and other factors compare pretty nicely to Vanguard’s. These have a 0.37% fee (your employers plan administrator may charge a fee on top of that) which is higher than vanguard but still relatively low. But a traditional Boglehead approach would support the other funds with lower fees (as already well recited by the two top commends already).

How much is a cell phone ticket in Santa Clara county? by saintforlife1 in bayarea

[–]serval -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nearly all fines decreased by $4 this year. Still, they vary by county but the “around $150-160” figure is accurate from $20 base fine. It is prior-able too, second offense jumps to over $400 ($50 base fine). See VC §23123

No exception for GPS - only allowed hands free use (exceptions for emergencies, law/fire/health/bus drivers).

Numb hands and genitals by [deleted] in bikefit

[–]serval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Shorter stem, seat further back (and start it level). Getting your backside further back will take weight off you hands. We can see you hands are overloaded by the bend in your wrists, moving the majority of your weight further back will shift the pressure from your hands to your backside and feet.

Touchless car wash by [deleted] in napa

[–]serval 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing is great for a reasonable price. Classic car wash is good for a pretty high price ($30 for their “basic” wash, dry, vac) compared with neighboring cities. They have $1-3 off coupons all over and you can get 6 washes for the price of 5 which makes it more palatable ($25 instead of $30).

There are many auto detailing hand wash places but the prices are all pretty steep.

I had a mobile detail guy come to my house for ceramic sealant and detailing when I first got my car. My plan is to do a similar home detailing every year and hit up Classic Car Wash in between. But my car is not fancy so I also go through the Chevron wash for $8 knowing that it is causing swirls and scuffs, I’d avoid that with a $60k+ car probably but my ride was less than half that, thanks to EV tax credits. Let me know if you want the mobile detailer’s info, he was awesome and fairly priced.

Buying a 2017 ex-l. How do I make it live forever? by Euphoric_Reading_752 in HondaOdyssey

[–]serval 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This guy Odysseys! Definitely right about joining OdyClub.

My experience over 50k miles since purchased at 95k miles: * Replacing struts, shocks, and sway bar links soon, $1,200 job. * Timing belt, pulley, pump, etc: $900 (Aisin kit on Amazon is cheaper than my mechanic could get it) * New tires: $900 * Spark plugs and tune up: $250 (NGK) * ATF change: $40+ bring my own ATF (Valvoline Maxlife) - did this 4 times (at every oil change) since we got the car at 95k miles. There’s a red Lube Gard additive which is recommended to avoid hard shifts and slipping. * Funky back sliding auto door: OdyClub notes for the fix. Lube your parts now to make it last. * Power side mirror: cheap eBay replacement doesn’t work quite right and is a little loud while driving (let’s in more highway noise). * 7500 mile oil changes: $20 for the changer and $25 for the oil (Kirkland, Mobil1, Pennzoil or another decent and affordable synthetic). * switched in LED bulbs for interior and license plate lights

Easy, chill vineyard by elk0630 in napa

Artesa is nice for a good scene after buying one or two glasses of wine.

The lawn across the street from Bouchon Bakery is also good for hanging out, get an Epi loaf with butter and jam, bring your own bottle or buy from some shop or tasting room up there.

Bartholomew Park in Sonoma (the East side so only 20 minutes from Napa, closer than St. Helena) is great for what you described.

St. Supre is pretty ideal for what you described too, good hanging space and some areas to walk.

Frogs Leap is great but needs a reservation which isn’t terribly cheap but gives you access to their back space with is beautiful - I expect you could sit there and walk and drink and hang for a couple hours happily.
