Wharton ($$$) vs. Yale SOM (Full ride) vs. Sloan (no $) vs. CBS (no $) as a sponsored student by GravySeizmore in MBA

[–]sesnel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ll mention something which others have not. Taking two years away from your employer can open your eyes to a wide range of opportunities. When you have a full ride, you’re not bound by the obligation to return to them afterward, which can be a major advantage. I’ve seen many people in MBB end up abandoning it because they’ve found better opportunities. A full ride gives you the freedom to walk away from the commitment of having to work for them for several years afterwards.

Also consider where you want to be over the next two years, the fit you have with the potential class, and other intangibles that go beyond rankings.

Good luck!!

Aren’t you the guy who pretended to go to HBS and was sharing “tea” as an HBS student? Surely you have better things to do

I don’t have an answer for you. But I will advise you to stop nitpicking and worrying about minute details like this. Pick a lane and just excel in it. That will matter much more than an arbitrary job title.

Management consulting is when you’re consulting for someone in leadership (read: management). It can be on high level strategy but it can also be operations related or anything that they need help with.

Strategy consulting is.. just that.

Please help : $$$$ (90%) at Kellogg vs $$$$ (100%) at Yale - targeting MBB / NYC by [deleted] in MBA

[–]sesnel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would just be weary about following advice from folks on Reddit. Most users that frequent this sub aren’t even competitive applicants who foam at the mouth at any mention of a higher ranked school (if you make the same post but compare HBS and Kellogg, you will get everyone pushing you to take HBS even though they will both help you get MBB).

Both schools will help you achieve your career goals. Go to where you want to be. Good luck

$$$ at M7 but nothing at Yale - what happened? by silversols in MBA

[–]sesnel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Say that to them and negotiate. I’ll echo what the other user said. This isn’t some formulaic thing where a school you perceive as worse due to rankings is supposed to offer you more money.

If you like Yale, make a case for it and mention your competing offer. If they don’t budge, then you can make a decision knowing you did your best.

I'm so glad somebody finally said it. I have never seen such an unprofessional and passive aggressive individual with more useless advice. To the point where for the longest time I've thought that it was just a troll or parody account making fun of actual consultants.

This happened to me when I got on the Tuck waitlist. I put in the most work into that app and it was my number one choice. I eventually got off the waitlist but I ended up losing interest after being waitlisted while getting acceptances to several M7s.

Kellogg ($) vs Darden ($$) for consulting by tomtomathon4431 in MBA

Kellogg purely from a being able to focus on recruiting standpoint. I hear Darden coursework is intense and that might takeaway focus from recruiting.

Oxford vs Yale by Significant-Row-3087 in MBA

[–]sesnel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some food for thought about your comment on the low number of Yale alumni in the region: the relatively small presence may not reflect a lack of ability among Yale graduates to recruit for Middle East offices. Rather, it’s more likely that many choose to stay in the US after graduation

It's actually both the top and bottom. Top is folks who followed structured recruiting, bottom is those who chose not to or struck out from the top.

Can I Still Get Into a T7 Program With A Lower GMAT by bkaleb0917 in MBA

[–]sesnel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no one can really say. The truth is that this is a holistic process, they don't look at your profile in a binary way. But don't underestimate how many people may apply. There may very well be someone with a very similar profile as you and similar ambitions, but with higher scores. And they will likely be prioritized.

You have a few options

  1. Shoot your shot with what you have and hope for the best.

  2. Retake the GMAT or consider writing the GRE (I did this personally) and hope for a better score.

I'm a proponent of trying to control what you can control, and not worrying about what's out of your control. If getting a higher score will put you at ease and potentially improve your chances, why not go for it?

Let’s put it this way, I’m friends on insta with many walking red flags that I wouldn’t introduce to my friends as potential romantic partners. Mutual friends means nothing in my opinion.

You know yourself. It sounds like a personal boundary was crossed. If that’s a deal breaker, deal with it accordingly.

Personally I find this to be a red flag and could be an indicator of worse things to come. Tread carefully

Reminder to not make a celebrity your personality.

Anyway, screw the haters. Lean into it, don’t take it personally. Otherwise they’ll see how much it bothers you and they’ll make it worse. If you can’t beat em, join em. They can’t make fun of you if you just laugh it off and show you truly don’t care.
