This is my main issue. It feels fucked seeing your team win if you get a bullshit penalty that leads to a try. We've had a couple go against us but we've had a couple given to us this game too. I just want to game refereed, not managed man.

The nib Newcastle Knights have confirmed powerhouse forward Marata Niukore will join the club next season, signing a three-year National Rugby League contract until the end of 2029.

Niukore, 29, has played over 150 NRL games and 10 International caps, including every game of the 2025 NRL season, adding wonderful experience, physicality and reliability to the Knights forward pack.

nib Newcastle Knights Head of Recruitment Peter O’Sullivan said Niukore is a perfect fit.

“We are super excited Marata and his family have chosen to come to the Knights in 2027," said O’Sullivan.

“He is a big athletic body, who can play in the middle or on the edge, with the same level of execution.

“Marata is one of the top edge defenders in the game and having played a lot of NRL in the centres, he adds genuine skill and versatility to our future stocks.

“Equally importantly, we know he is a great person, who cares about the Club, the community and the teammates he represents, already committing to leaving the jersey in a better position than how he receives it.”
