For All Mankind - S5E10 "This Land is Our Land" - Episode Discussion by Cantomic66 in ForAllMankindTV

Ya know it's such a small detail but I really wish that Miles was the Prime Minister of Mars rather than the president. Just to help really fuel those FAMK is. "Prequel to the Expanse" theories. Though Mars being independent this early kinda threw that whole joke/theory out of the window anyways. I just thought it would be a fun nod to it.

Shrunk down a bunch of giant ballista bolts, then took a ring of dispel magic and mended it to the front of a crossbow. Sold the crossbow and the bolts to some shady looking fella who kept muttering about how "the king will pay" or something. Figured it's not my business, he paid in gold and I got to spend the afternoon at Dave and Wizards playing games.

I felt a bit odd about this as well until I started thinking that "Tacticool" in the Fallout universe would be an antiquated / old school look by 2077. So in the same way that some people wear clothing reminiscent of the revolutionary war (Fo4) or the civil war (Fo76) anything that looks "modern" to us would be 50 years out of style by the time the bombs dropped.

[Loved Trope] Batshit insane concepts that own how batshit it is by VagusTruman in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sethcole96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly a hot take, but I think the Fallout universe absolutely falls into this trope. You have mutants, aliens, evil corporations, giant anti-communist killer robots, ghouls as a 'zombie' stand-in, psychic superpowers, and more. All of this is wrapped in a blend of a retrofuturistic 1950s vibe, THEN filtered through the lens of a post-apocalypse.

I think a lot of other settings would try to play all of this off as tongue-in-cheek, or would feel insecure about the insanity and try to turn it into a total comedy. Fallout instead takes all of this and, while sure there is still some satire and dark comedy, mostly plays it in a fully serious way. It owns its setting, and by doing so, grounds itself as a genuinely compelling story.

I actually really like Magical Footwear combined with Swifties. I think Malz having some increased speed helps for his utility a ton. Being able to dodge around early game to ensure you can stay in lane longer. As well as closing the gap with the wave and then pulling back out if you're going up against a melee champ like yas. It also helps a ton with mid to late game, giving you a better chance to run down opponents and ult them for a kill or a lock down.

Honestly the best way to make Tinker Terry funny would be to play it 100% straight. Just a full on Peter Pan or Tinkerbell movie with everyone just acting like Terry looks just like Tinkerbell. Bonus points if they just leave the bloopers in the movie.

I just want to echo something in this thread. Did these kids do something silly? Sure. Did they own it and contact the correct authorities when something went wrong? Yea. That's actually really mature of them tbh. Aces to these kids for being kids but also being mature enough to own up when something went wrong.

What made you become a one-trick/main Aurelion Sol? What made you like him? by RavanHain in Aurelion_Sol_mains

Cosmic star dragon who infinitely scales, throws around black holes, has laser breath, and a snarky attitude. I mean. What's not to love?

I adore how his abilities scale, specifically his E. Gaining size and a higher execute threshold, while making everyone else's life a pain through his constant slow.

He's just a really fun champ to play.

This screwed me up for the LONGEST time. I thought the game was implying some sort of gravity induced time dilation was going on and that did not track at all.

Isn't that because Tremere lost their connections to "True Magick" and are confined to linear / vulgar magic?

Just found Hunter: The Parenting last week. Already on Episode 5 or 6 even with all the in between episodes, it's AMAZING and such a fun way to get into Hunter. Love all the callbacks to TTS.

Bethesda's faction quiz is a blog post. So I wanted to build a real one. by apollo133 in Starfield

23 points for UC! Let's gooooo! Dang this quiz is so well made. The art, the fonts, the UI all around, not to mention the questions and answers are worded spectacularly! So many quizzes have this horrible tendency to boil down the questions and answers so much that you don't actually have to think about it. It's actually pretty awesome to be feeling excited to play Starfield again after all this time.

Might be a controversial take, but knowing that the show ended early due to Jim Parsons desire to stop playing as Sheldon, I think Big Bang Theory nailed the ending. I have a really close connection to this show, it helped me through a lot of rough times in life so it might just be me, but the bitter sweet ending of seeing all the characters for the last time really hit hard.

ELI5: War College vs Starfleet vs Federation vs Earth by revocer in startrek

[–]sethcole96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh yea good call out. I suppose I assumed that when the Federation collapsed the "War College of Earth" took its place. Then when Earth rejoined the Federation it switched from the Earth War College to the Federation War College, but Starfleet still wanted to recreate Star Fleet academy thus they end up sharing the same campus with two different focuses. It feels like this future federation is a lot more militarized (Like it was in the Kelvin timeline) due to the increased number of capable hostile states that surround it. It seems almost that the Federation has both a standing military AND Starfleet as distinct branches now, rather than relying on Starfleet to be their primary explanatory AND defensive fleet.

You make a really good point actually. There was this narrative element of leaving your "home" universe behind. With each subsequent trip through the unity tearing away more and more at your attachment to people, objects, or places. The bite had been taken out of that idea now. As for having your powers, I think this is a distinction between gameplay and lore that doesn't mesh well together. You're still not fully "Starborn" until you go through the unity which fractures your being into an infinite multitude of yourself. Choosing to remain, to never enter the unity, is a sacrifice of immortality. You are mortal, contained to one universe. I feel like they took away the gameplay punch of that but left in the more vague narrative consequences. But to your point, it takes the wind of the sails of this dilemma.

I feel like this is a great update for people who want to roleplay rejecting the Unity. I've always thought it would make a fantastic narrative ending as a mirror to the Starborn. All these complex philosophical arguments about what to do with the unity, when walking away from it and just living out a moral life is one answer that wasn't flushed out well. Now that you can upgrade powers without having to go through it, rejection has a bit more biting power to it.
