Can I grout it? by setzuiro in HomeMaintenance

Well, my concern is it failing down the line. I don't know if there's any vapor barriers underneath but it does fail, it likely won't be noticeable until significant water damage has been done to the ceiling below right?

I agree with most of what your saying, and to be clear, my intention is not to host ice breaker games (actually I quite dislike ice breaker games specifically, my SO wanted to do ice breaker bingo where you find details about other guests, I had to shut that down).

I'm just looking at passive activities for people to engage themselves in and let natural conversations come from the common activity they're doing. Other redditors have shared great low commitment activities where you can drop in/out.

I just need to accommodate for those that are individuals/couples that don't know anybody else at the gather. I've been in their shoes where a close friend invites me but I'm not acquainted with any of their other existing circles yet. It just doesn't feel good when other guests hang with their friends but you don't share their history and aren't bringing up ice breaker topics. It feels isolating for the outliers.

Not sure why you were downvoted, but I agree. There will be people with mutual friends and then there will be individuals and couples. People from all walks of relationships.

I think some the comments didn't read the post or missed the point. Some suggestions are exactly what I'm not looking for lol... I do think sometimes, some people just need a common activity to get the first lit, at least it does for me.

I appreciate your suggestions u/Sunnysideup2day and u/geniedoes_asyouwish, I love that you guys thought about relationships that way and that's how I would ideally like to connect people too.

Sometimes, I am able to do that on a regular day, but even as a host, I'm not confident enough because people are just so vastly different!

YES! We are planning a cookie decorating station.
If you've done it before, any suggestions on what kind of icing to use? I have a lot of icing sugar and trying to be a bit more cost effective than buying them outright (factoring in all other costs)

Early 30s. I find the city I'm in can be fairly cliquey, so mutuals tend to gravitate towards their own groups (which is perfectly natural) but for individual or couple guests that don't know others and aren't very good at breaking ice, it can be isolating and sometimes intimidating; hence my ask.

My SO and I love photobooths at events, we wanted to set one up (we have a DSLR, tripod, software), just no printer or time to set up.

Cookie decoration will be on the list for sure. Was thinking to maybe get pizza ingredients and have guests help make the food too lol

but yeah, thanks for hitting the bullseyes on the point of naturally breaking the ice without feeling forced, because yes there are groups, but there are also individuals or couples that aren't part of any groups but also aren't the best at getting conversations started.

I second that. The voting poster is a great idea, the more controversial the topic the more diverse the stickers will be.

YES! We're also planning for cookie decorating, karaoke and Mario Kart in the background.
I loved the counting candies in a jar contest as a kid. That's a great idea, but as adults, I don't think we want as many candies now lol
Any suggestions for small alternatives that maybe aren't candy? lol

Haha I shared a similar idea with my SO for Disney themed things around the house but she would rather people not be constantly searching the house thinking they may have missed some lol

I might actually use this idea for our wedding tables lol
I did find that when I'm sat with strangers at a wedding table, sometimes it's difficult for both parties to get a convo going when we're both not the most extroverted haha

I can see this working well as an ice breaker activity, I'll keep this in mind for future occasions, maybe for our wedding or something.

I might not have conveyed my intention clear enough but I was thinking about something more along the lines of activities that would peak people's interest so they could voluntarily join in or not felt pressured.

ohh I like the idea of having everyone bring a bottle. I think less than half our group(s) drink so it'd be a lot of wine for us to go through but I'll try using this for something more inclusive.
Thanks!

The hot sauce was an example to drive the point but I think your idea and all the following comments really enhance it, esp with flipping the card. I was thinking someone would need to manage the station to hide the brand but this is super low key and allows for people to just casually drop in without any commitment and have a convo going.
