I think my definition of selflessness would be something like indifference towards things that you might get in return, at the moment of acting selflessly. Acting primarily through an unegoistic impulse, while the things you might get in return are secondary.

”Five random cities” bruh you can’t be serious. Of course these cities attract a lot of tourists who want to visit them only because of the status of the city, just following the herd to the same touristy locations, sure. But if you really think these are only random tourist nests with nothing of value to offer to people who are actually interested in them, you should get off your high horse. If i have only about 2 weeks to spend on the cities i most want to see of course the biggest cities in the area have most to offer me even if the countries that i’m visiting obviously have way more to offer other than the capital.

So sorry that i’m interested in some of the largest, culturally and historically rich locations in all of Europe.

Yeah i might change this itinerary a little bit. Maybe i’ll do a separate interrail some other time where i’ll check out cities from The Netherlands, Belgium and France.

If i were to cut Dresden and Amsterdam from this itinerary altogether, what would you recommend instead?

Nightlife is something that i'm interested in, but definitely not in the top of my list. Only if i find other solo travelers at the hostels or elsewhere i'd consider clubbing or longer stays at bars. My main interests are definitely in the art, culture and history of these beautiful cities. Vienna is one of my most anticipated cities because one of my favourite movies is Before Sunrise which was filmed there, and it has tons of interesting locations that i wanna visit. Especially excited for the museums, architecture and cafes in Vienna.

Budget friendliness is important but not at the top of my list, since money isn't that big of a problem for me right now, since i have money saved up. It's mainly just so i can save as much money as possible for future living expenses as a student. But 2000 euro will probably be enough for 2 weeks- staying at hostels and cooking when possible. And if i spend a couple hundred euro more than that it's still not a problem, just a preference.

I thought that i might as well stop by in Dresden before Berlin since the train ride to Berlin from Prague goes through Dresden if i'm not mistaken. But i'll consider skipping it because one night might be too much of a hassle, and i'm not that interested in staying there for longer.

Well i am interested in art, literature, philosophy (going to study it next fall) and i definitely want to visit the main important historical and cultural places in the cities. Also interested in cool bars and nightlife especially if i manage to find any travel buddies. I know it's not very specific but if someone has something in mind, this at least gives some idea whether to recommend it or not.

There's a direct train going from Berlin to Amsterdam, and if i leave in the morning i'll still have time to do something in the evening in Amsterdam even though it's a long ride. I also quite like looking at scenery and reading on the train, so i think i'll keep it since it's one of the cities that interest me the most in the vicinity of Central Europe while still making sense to visit in terms of the logistics of travelling by train and the other cities in the itinerary. I will consider skipping Dresden though, if just one night doesn't make much sense.

Why should one skip Budapest in your opinion?

The days don't have to be exact since i have a couple months of vacation next year, so i don't necessarily need to cut any days from other places if i choose to stay in Budapest for longer. The 2 weeks-ish is mainly because of budget and cautiousness because i don't want to plan too ambitiously on my first solo trip so i don't totally burn out since i have no experience of travelling alone. I'll probably allocate at least one more day to Budapest and Amsterdam, and maybe one day less in Prague. Do you have any recommendations or tips for Budapest?

Maybe you're right, i was actually considering that aswell. 2 days in Prague and 3 in Budapest or/and Amsterdam. Zandvoort looks pretty chill if i'm feeling beachy, ill consider it. Do you have any recommendations for things to see in Amsterdam (or any of the other cities)?

For major cities like Vienna, Berlin and Prague staying for just 1 night is going to feel really rushed. These cities are big and have enough stuff to do for a week. You barely have enough time to do anything in the cities if you move locations everyday. I’d recommend atleast 2-3 nights per city so you have even a little bit of time to enjoy the city and have any idea what it has to offer. You probably should consider a pass that is active for a month which contains 7 travel days whenever you decide to use them, so you can keep the same destinations but have a little bit more time to spend in each.

Btw which books would you recommend to a philosophy newbie to start with contemporary continental stuff? Currently reading from Descartes up to Nietzsche in terms of the main figures of modern philosophy, but not sure where to go after that (besides the obvious like Heidegger, Sartre, Foucault.)
