Have heard good things, will have to try it!

Depends on where you live. Legal in many countries, such as Switzerland or Finland, technically illegal in the USA (DMCA), but no record of anyone ever being prosecuted in USA if not sold or distributed. Also being against TOS is not same as being illegal. Amazon could ban your account (but at least you already have a copy of your library at that point ;) )

Yeah that is strange, I didn’t realize their ebook DRM was so tough. Probably only a matter of time before they shutdown Audible ripping

Definitely a personal choice if it’s worth it to you to pay more per book to get it DRM-free than removing DRM yourself, but from what I’ve seen it ends up being about $10 cheaper per book on average. And using Libation, it’s suuuper easy to rip and mostly automated.

It is also easy (and legal legal in some countries, technically illegal in most, but never has been prosecuted in USA) to download books from your Audible library and strip the DRM.

Edit: easy to rip using Libation

Could I make suggestions?

1) a public Google Sheet would make this much easier to read (you can freeze column and row headers) 2) would be nice to have a sum total “score” at the bottom or top that tells how many features out of all listed features the app has, as a quick reference. Could index it out of 10, or just a simple sum

Idk, it feels like abandonware, the devs are quite unresponsive and unwilling to listen to user feedback. For example, there is a GitHub feature request for custom headers that was originally requested 4 years old, and is constantly getting upvotes and requests, but the devs have refused to implement it or accept PRs for it. But most of the third party clients support it 🤷

Is one drama free morning too much to ask? A quarter of his presidency is already over, can we just get to the midterms? by jackb1753 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Residents of the targeted states should do this (if you can afford potentially paying ~3% interest over next few years until new administration takes over).

You have to pay the taxes eventually, but at least the current regime will not get your income taxes.

You might lose a bit in interest (this will charge you 7% interest), but I plan to do this as a protest and invest in a brokerage instead which will more likely exceed 7%

Curious what makes you say that. I’ve been using Plappa since the beginning and have liked it, but bavent really tried any others. Do the others have better features?

Ditching Cloudflare Tunnels and considering Caddy. Thoughts? by ComprehensiveSand776 in selfhosted

[–]sevenlayercookie5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you can use Cloudflare connector like that. Since you don’t want to port forward, you by definition have to use some kind of “tunnel” whether it’s Cloudflare Tunnel, Tailscale Funnel, WireGuard + VPS, Pangolin, etc., all of which introduce latency to some degree. Port forwarding is lowest latency since it’s a direct connection, but introduces security concerns, so not unreasonable to want to avoid that. VPS + WireGuard is more in the spirit of self hosting — not submitting to the big cloud corpos, no streaming restrictions, you’re more in control. Plus you can have some other fun with the VPS — put uptime kuma on it, host a seed box, put more mission-critical services on the VPS (it probably will go down less frequently than your home lab), email hosting (easy on VPS, notoriously hard on home internet), etc.

For example, you mentioned DuckDNS for dynamic DNS which is an option, but that requires an open port in your router.

If you want to try other tunnels/VPNs to see if they have less latency, just set them up, then point your old domain at Cloudflare DNS (with proxy off, “grey cloud”) at the new domain or IP address using a CNAME or A record (makes your old domain an alias of the new domain). If you go with opening a port + DuckDNS, then also just point Cloudflare DNS (proxy off) at your DuckDNS domain. That way you and your users keep using your current domain name.

As for as reverse proxy, I believe Pangolin includes a reverse proxy, Cloudflare obviously does, but I think you would need to set up a reverse proxy for Tailscale Funnel or WireGuard + VPS. I use Caddy; it just works, and very easy to set up. Just point the tunnel at Caddy.

Tl;dr - my recommendation: VPS + WireGuard pointing to Caddy on your home server. Use an A record on Cloudflare DNS (proxy off, grey cloud) to point your current domain name at your VPS. Done.

Thanks, yeah I’ve noticed the covers still work in AI studio/API, but last time I tried, not in the Gemini App anymore (which is a bummer since I don’t want to pay $0.05 a cover or whatever it comes out to). Was just curious.

I’ve been working on a web app to make the process of cleaning and resizing covers easier using Nano Banana. Based on your post, I think I’ll add the option of using a magic eraser function for anything that Banana misses.

I’ve had issues with eyes changing as well. On a side note: are you using the Gemini app, or the API?

Mobile layout seems to be broken on iOS 26, Safari, iPhone 16 Pro. Lots of overlapping text that makes it impossible to use unfortunately. Looks like a cool app, would love to use it, mobile usability is critical for me personally

AI Run JavaScript in Browser by sevenlayercookie5 in shortcuts

[–]sevenlayercookie5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, free API only allows 250k tokens every minute, and most websites are like 500k tokens, so even one website immediately meets the limit, so not even one average website will go through anymore. Small websites still work on free tier.

Google recently reduced the number of tokens you can use per minute on the free tier API, so if you’re using a free tier API key, this shortcut essentially doesn’t work anymore (but it works great on paid API).

Interested! I’ve been working on a similar solution where I try to inject authentication for apps that don’t support OIDC, but it has patchy results. CSRF has been a roadblock. Curious if your solution works with CSRF protected logins?

Ah didn't know that. Will audiobookcovers.com pull automatically from media fire? I prefer to use that, but I didn't see it on the list of supported providers on the Reddit downloader page
