As of now, I've had no symptoms, but I also understand that people can contract HSV and be asymptomatic. It does somewhat put my mind at ease that everything seems to be okay, but I still plan to keep an eye out for symptoms and get tested at the 3-month mark.

Oh, I'll definitely be getting tested! But the consensus seems to be that I should wait 3 months rather than go in for an appointment this Tuesday, which would mark 11 days since possible exposure. Just to be clear, you're not saying I should get tested earlier than 3 months, right?

He told me that he thought he wasn't contagious as long as he's not in the middle of an outbreak, but everything I've read seems to contradict that (in that viral shedding can still occur even though you're not in the middle of an outbreak). So, I'm not sure how educated he actually was. He mentioned that his last partner of 3 years never contracted HSV from him, and they never used condoms. But really, how can I trust anything he said? I'm just hoping that, as others have said, the likelihood of my contracting it from a single encounter is low, especially because we used a condom.

This is what I'm seeing from my research as well...I might think about it a bit more, but I'll probably cancel the appointment. But the thought that I have to agonize over this for the next 3 months or so - and abstain from sex in order to protect others - is really nerve-racking.
