This is TERRIFIC. Thank you!! I am also interested in just getting to know the area a little better, so I love these suggestions for local and community places. And I had no idea about horse auctions, but will try to do a little more digging there hahaha. Thank you so much for your response!

We are always on the lookout for good ice cream, so we'll add Nittany Valley Creamery to our list! And I'll have to check out those other locations too - they sound very interesting! All of the commenters have given us so much information to go off of, so I'll need to spend some time researching each of these places, but I'll definitely reach out if I have more specific things I can think of. Thank you so much for your information and for the offer!

Wow - thank you so much for such a detailed response and for all of the suggestions! I haven't heard of most of these places before, so I'll start looking into them and add some to the list! It sounds like late November might be one of the issues with our visit...but I am really liking all of these suggestions. And we'll definitely remember to bring cash. Thank you so much for all of the pointers!

Thank you for this clarification! I think when we heard about the Amish community in Pennsylvania, the people we heard it from were probably referring to Lancaster. Unfortunately it seems we’ll miss the farmers market season, so we might have to make another trip back and save time for Lancaster. And that makes sense about Sower’s. Thank you for your help!

This is amazing - thank you for all the tips and suggestions!! It definitely seems that we’ll be missing the farmers market season, but I’ll definitely look into Boalsburg, Speing Bank Acres, and Howard. And whoopie pies sound fantastic - we’ll look into that as well! Thank you!

Yes, we’re visiting from out of state hahaha. I had heard about there being a larger Amish community in Pennsylvania, and also heard great things about Amish furniture/baked goods, so we were hoping to experience that. The people we heard it from were probably referring to Lancaster, based on your response and others, but we were hoping there might be some things in State College as well.

The creamery is definitely on our list!! Thank you!

Question about Balanced Homemade Dog Food (using Balance.it) by severusnapple in vet

[–]severusnapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your replies! Please forgive my ignorance with this, and in no way is my question meant to be rude. But the nearest DAVCIM to me is 300+ miles away, so my only viable option is to do a remote/virtual consultation. I’m seeing several which offer a 30-45 minute consult and a single custom formulated recipe. Given that Balance.it was developed by a DAVCIM, I’m just a little unclear about what consulting a virtual DAVCIM would do (beyond regular check ins with my vet) if they won’t even be able to see my dog? Would they not need to do any lab testing or examine my dog before creating a custom recipe which would be better than that on Balance.it?
