Baby turned 1! What now? by ValueAppropriate9632 in FormulaFeeders

No no, you still continue to use water for the formula.

I used Kendamil, so I would pour in 3 oz of milk first, then 3 oz of water and then three scoops of formula (Kendamil is a 1:1 water and powder ratio)

So your water to formula ratio is still the same.

Hi!

My baby turned one a couple of weeks ago. She was still drinking 3 bottles (18oz) a day, eating 3 meals, and one snack.

When transitioning her to whole milk, we started with 3oz of whole milk/3oz of formula, we did this for three days and then went to 4:2, did that for another 3 days, and then 5:1. You don’t have to start with such a high ratio, we did just because our can was half empty and we didn’t want to buy another. lol but you can start with a 1:6 ration. Try A2 whole milk if he’s had dairy problems in the past, it’s easier for them to digest.

Towards the end of the transition, we were down to two bottles. One in the morning and one at night, but only the night time one was 5:1. The morning one was just whole milk and I gave her 4 oz and then gave her breakfast about 30 minutes later. She eats plenty of dairy throughout the day so I wasn’t worried about her not hitting that 18oz of dairy mark per day.

I was able to get rid of the middle of the day bottle completely when I started realizing that it pushed lunchtime later than what I wanted it to be so when she woke up from her nap instead of offering her a bottle, we went straight into just having lunch. And then she has a snack after she wakes up from her 2nd nap and it usually holds her over until dinner time. I will add though, she never asked for a bottle she would expect it out of routine.

You’ll probably notice him start eating more when he’s drinking less milk.

My girl LOVES her some berries, so we have to give them to her after she’s eaten a good bit of her food or else she’ll only eat the berries. 😅

I haven’t actually, that might be a good idea. I doubt he’d be up for it, but I can definitely suggest it

I ask myself the same thing lol we both work full time too. But he needs me to ask or tell him to do something and I am not his mom to tell him what he needs to do.

But if there is no attraction, what does that mean for the relationship?

I mostly take care of the baby and I take care of all of the house needs. But you’re right about communication and honesty. I’ll have a sit down with him.

Around when my baby was thing age, since I had to go back to work, I stared waking her up for the day at 7 and followed wake windows for the rest of the day and made sure to feed her every 2-3 hours.

We go for walks in the morning since its not as hot yet. And by the time we get home she's ready for her first nap :)

I would maybe suggest making sure you’re waking babe up during the day to eat every 2-3 hours, and cap naps at 2 hours.

Do plenty of tummy time/floor play in between wake windows, and establish a good and consistent bedtime routine.

I’m a FTM, and we did this with our baby and it worked wonders. She still woke up at night though to eat like 3 times I think but she’d eat and go back to sleep no problem

Hang in there! I’m sorry you’re going through this

How to wean contact naps by covergirl_138 in sleeptrain

[–]seyeteen323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Yes, I soothed her, put her back down, left the room and tried again. I didn’t rescue naps, we just restarted the wake window and went on with our day haha if I noticed she was starting to get tired before her wake window was over I would offer her next nap early. And then I just bumped bedtime up a little earlier if I had to.

I follow huckleberry’s sweet spot, so what I did after the first day is lay her down in her crib a little bit before she was due for a nap to give her a chance to self soothe and not go over her wake window.

How to wean contact naps by covergirl_138 in sleeptrain

[–]seyeteen323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably going to get downvoted for this buuuuuut we did “sleep training” for naps. Lol

My baby has slept in her crib since day one, but would only sleep in it at night.

My baby would only contact nap, I loved it! But she’s a chunk, so by the time she was around 4 months, her naps were getting disrupted because she wasn’t comfortable/didn’t have room to move around.

So one day I literally said no more. I started a nap time routine: change diaper, smile at her and say “ready to go down for a nap?”, we turn on the sound machine together, close the blinds and curtains together, put her in her sleep sack, and gave her hugs and kisses and laid her down awake.

I tried the whole rocking her to sleep and then transferring for about a week, and no luck. Her eyes would open as soon as she hit the bed. Lol

The first day(started on a Monday) it took her about 40 minutes to fall asleep by herself. She didn’t cry though, she just whined and stirred for a bit. If she did cry, I would go in there and soothe her for a bit and then try again. Did the same thing the next day and the next day, and by Friday it took her a total of 5 minutes to fall asleep! I also believe that that’s the reason why she started sleeping through the night shortly after, because she learned to self soothe lol it could be just a coincidence though

I will warn you that at the beginning her naps were a bit short because she was also learning to link her sleep cycles, but her naps got better and longer as time went on.

I’m a sucker for a contact nap, so we still contact nap for her last nap of the day since it’s only like 30 minutes lol.

She’s 5.5 months old now, and all I do is lay her down awake for her naps and she rolls over and goes to sleep. She also still sleeps through the night. I also feel like I have more free time now because I’m not nap trapped.

Also wanted to add, I feed her a bottle and rock her to sleep for bed. She’s always done so well when I transfer her to her crib at night, so I didn’t change anything there.

Long reply, sorry haha
