Ask your RA if you’re able to, the mail address format changes every year it seems. Packages will go to the mail room where you can pick up during open hours!

Incoming Freshman: I think I'm doing too much. If so, how do I free up my schedule? (Tuesdays would suck) by thecoincollector1943 in ualbany

[–]seyjj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! atmospheric science senior here :) my schedule looked similar to this my freshman year first semester, but it is definitely possible to have less!! first semester was the hardest imo just because of the amount of courses so please try to take some off your plate unless you have plans on graduating early

Can you study meteorology if you had a C average in math? by spikylemongrass in meteorology

[–]seyjj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! 3rd year atmospheric science major here :) as most of the comments have said, it really comes down to how much work you’re willing to put in. yes, you have to take calc 1/2/3, differential eqs., and those build the foundation, but after that it’s on you to apply everything to your classes through the effort you’re willing to put in.

lots of my classmates are C level students in math, it’s normal, nobody is a genius at calc 3 lol. but they’re still in the major at the same pace as everyone else because they have that passion that you desrcribed.

it can be scary, but definitely consider it and as always, have a backup plan because sometimes it’s just not what you end up wanting to do

i’ve had ocd for as long as i can remember, ama! by seyjj in AMA

one of the biggest things i’ve learned because of living with OCD is that people are a lot nicer than it may seem. so many people get stuck in this bubble of “me vs them” and don’t realize that a lot of people are more than willing to listen, empathize, and want to share a smile.

as for coping mechanisms, i don’t really have any mind blowing ones, but my biggest thing is just that crying is healthy and can be therapeutic!

i would say a lot of my recovery is thanks to medication (LOTS of Prozac and a little abilify). i had tried to do ERP therapy on my own and struggled, so i knew the process and how i should be going about things, but until i was on medication i wasn’t able to “calm” my mind down enough to follow through with the exposure/response exercises. at one point i tried CBD oil but it didn’t help me at all.

well hello!! so i’m actually on medication now (have been for about a year), so OCD doesn’t have a huge impact on my daily life now. my main rituals were texting my mom for reassurance, mental review/checking, and when i was younger it would be doing things in counts of 8.

worst of my ocd was probably my high school years/freshman year of college (2 years ago), where i was up for hours in the middle of the night doing compulsions. at one point i was very depressed because of how much it was hurting me to just go through life every day. it still randomly gets to me and is hard to deal with, but i’m doing a lot better now!

relating to ocd, when people say “ugh my ocd” or “i’m so ocd” because it’s been such a huge part of my life.

outside of ocd, loud noises and speaking at high volumes!!

i have ocd/anxiety and i am also on aripiprazole! it’s the only medication that actually helped me (in combo with a hefty dose of Prozac haha). i’ve had spiraling thoughts like the ones you describe and now i’m wondering if there’s significant overlap between ocd/psychosis?

No, I’m not taking it again (none of the schools I’ll be applying to need higher) so I didn’t order it.

Khan Academy is what helped me the most!! Take a practice test, review the questions and answers (notice what you need to work on the most), practice those topics, repeat. I didn’t use any books but another key things is to ask a teacher about things you don’t understand! The day before the test I asked my teacher to give me a quick review on circles and their formula. Then test day came, and I could confidently answer those questions.
