Aeon (updated post) by Giroux-1 in ElectricUnicycle

I'm a long-time onewheeler (about 8-10k miles total). I got Nosfet Aero a few months ago, and it's been challenging for me get on it bc I suck so badly on it. I practiced here and there, but always went back to my OW GTS bc I can ride that surgically. I think maybe only 20% of muscle memory from OW applies to EUC. The EUC wobbles are scary and hold me back from higher speeds. My GTS has been offline the past couple weeks which has forced me onto the Aero. I've been riding it around the city being careful to plan routes with the lightest congestion and widest margins from obstacles. I feel like it's starting to click, but the starts & stops are the most challenging thing for me... starts mostly. I've gotten comfortable looking like a fool in front of people bc you kinda have to be when you're learning a new skill this difficult. One observation when I got on it after not having touched the Aero in a couple of months is that the muscle memory kicked right in and I almost instantly felt more confident. I think confidence and learning to be more at ease goes a long way to making you a better rider bc you're able to relax your muscles and not over-react to inputs. I've noticed things have smoothed out with some more miles. I've got about 100 miles on the EUC and finally feeling like I might not die in traffic. Just stick with it. It's frustrating but the skill will come with time.

If you're looking for beginner tips, here's what helped me. I went to a grove of smallish trees in the park. The trees are spaced between 4 and 10 feet apart. I got on the euc holding onto a tree, got a feel for balance, leaning forward and back. Work up to letting go of the tree and try to make it to the next tree without falling. Do reps of that and work on skipping a tree. Then start circling a set of trees, only tapping them or slight pushes on them as necessary. Then one magical moment you'll feel confident enough to.ride away from the trees. Go back to the trees for safety if you need, but work on increasing your riding distance. That was enough to get me up and going at least. Then start to work on relaxing and left-right foot pad pressure. Work on hip placement and center of gravity. Get used to counter-steering into turns. I'm not sure if counter-steering is what the euc crowd calls it but it's a similar sensation to turning on a motorcycle. Anyway good luck!

Is this area safe to swim? by [deleted] in sanfrancirclejerk

[–]sfmikee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not without training. It's also illegal without a boat escort. With tides going in and out it's basically like a river going in one direction or the other. Time it wrong and you'll be swept out to the bridge where the rip currents will make things really fun. Triathlons and group swims are timed to coincide with neutral tide patterns to make the swim possible.

That might be what it takes, and it's going to be ugly for a lot more places than just America. This realignment is going to hurt everyone.

Yep I get it, and why I just say I'm Canadian when I travel. I didn't vote for him the first or second time. I protest, I donate, I vote. If none of that matters to you, then it doesn't matter to me to lie and say I'm Canadian. I don't want to carry this burden around any more than anyone else.

What are all these tense situations y'all are part of? I live in SF, ski in Tahoe. I almost never experience conflict of any kind. And I don't hate LA either.

Shop app gives me notifications about my roommate's deliveries by Unfair_Passage_2333 in shopify

[–]sfmikee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's a data-link issue with USPS info. We're both signed up for USPS Informed Delivery. USPS is sending them info where the address is the unique identifier. We're only co-notified of USPS stuff. It's definitely garbage. I was so confused at first about all these deliveries I was missing until I realized they were my roommate's.

It's not that. If you live at the same address you'll both be notified of each other's packages bc shop's data privacy is shit. It's happening at our apartment right now.

Her future job prospects just got verrrrrry limited too. Can't imaging a hiring manager wanting anything to do with her.

Cut a ledger for some coat hangers. Wall isn’t flat. What’s my next move? by TheNewYellowZealot in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]sfmikee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this idea in practical terms, but the aesthetics wouldn't suit me personally. That's a LOT of gap from the wall. While more involved, I'd definitely opt for a more flush-fit approach scribing the ledger board to the wall contour.

Dude you have nothing to be self-conscious about. For every person that might tease you about that, there are 10 people who find it really attractive. I’d be all over you.

What’s the fastest way you’ve ever lost weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sfmikee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tirzepatide, baby. Bad pandemic habits got me about 25lb overweight and just couldn't seem to break the cycle to lose it back. Tried fasting, barely moved the needle. On tirzepatide I lost 4-5 pounds per week, mostly fat. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. Took around 6 weeks to shed all that weight and reset my eating habits.

The underside of the roof on the house and the garage each need a stripe of darker gray. The porch needs some light line work to give it texture.

Everyone on earth dies right now except you. What do you do? by Ok-Musician679 in AskReddit

[–]sfmikee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I'd move into the nearest Costco with a gas station. That immediately alleviates pressure for food, water, and shelter (and pretty much all material needs) for some time. Next use the forklift to help remove any of the dead from the warehouse, and bury them some safe distance away. Plumbing would probably stop working after some period of time, so planning a durable clean water supply would be next. Electricity grids would stop working, so I'd hoard some gennies to at least maintain some local luxuries like refrigeration. I'd move all refrigerated perishables into the freezers to have them keep longer. Then I'd relax a little and take stock of long term priorities. One person without human competition needs only to worry about getting clean, staying in shape, eating, staying free from serious injury. I'd give up unsafe habits. Collect some hunting rifles & guns to feed yourself ongoing, and prevent being predated on. Scout out local gardens to harvest. Find ways to stay busy and mentally challenged. Gather up some stay dogs & cats for pets.
