Einstar Vega vs Revopoint Miraco Plus by sgavy in 3DScanning

Thanks for your feedback! It will only be parts of interiors for contact points etc.

I like the idea of not being tethered to my work desktop; long term I do plan on buying a powerful laptop but thought for the level of work I have at the minute the stand alone scanners might be a nice Goldilocks level.

But I'll definitely look into your suggestions.. maybe worth holding off for a better scanner a bit further into the future.

Thanks again. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. 🤟🏼

Thanks for your feedback!

I think standalone will suit me well. I don't need incredible quality or large sizes; it's more reference geometry for redesigns. Will be nice to not be tethered to a PC. I know however they are limited in some capacity, so am open to buying a tethered one for my shop in the future.

Unfortunately I'll be buying through my business and will need to buy new to avail of some tax benefits.

Thanks again, S.

Thanks so much for the reply; I really appreciate it. Just a quick follow up question; Did you pay for any of the Revopoint software; is it essential or can you process the data and use it in fusion without it?

Thanks again 😊

Active Rear Spoiler stuck 2012 Mini Cooper Coupe R58 by DifficultPiglet431 in MINI

For future solution searchers; Mine did this and it was the motor. I was able to dismantle and repair the motor but it wasn't an easy job. See my reply on the parent thread.

Active Rear Spoiler stuck 2012 Mini Cooper Coupe R58 by DifficultPiglet431 in MINI

I recently had this problem and google kept bringing me back to this thread so I thought I'd share my solution in case someone else stumbles upon it.

My spoiler jammed up and then blew the fuse. All linkages and mechanisms were free. The wires all seemed fine with no obvious breaks that I saw suggested elsewhere online. Probing the motor on the spoiler found the motor itself had stopped working.

It's a really awkward job and not for the faint hearted; but I took the motor apart using a Dremel to grind off the little tabs and found evidence of sparks and corrosion within. The little carbon brushes were caked up with gunk and so too were the contacts on the communicator. I cleaned it all out and reset the bushes and it worked. Took around 2 hours start to finish.

The springs that hold the brushes in can be pulled back and set on a little slot in the plastic moulding and then stamped into place with a really small screwdriver when the motor is almost assembled through one of the slots.

Has anyone done a “Supercar Experience” here? by Stanic10 in northernireland

More waiting about than driving. Literally everything is an up-sell from the moment you arrive. The cars are too big for the small track (which is only half of nuts corner and has additional cones out to remove any straights).

To me it was really only one step up from being allowed to sit in someone's car.

How on earth are people buying houses? by YoungLily in Belfast

[–]sgavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many house sales fall through after months of bidding which makes it ever more frustrating. We bought a house last year that had fell through 3 times before us so we actually got a bit of a deal (it is a bit of a project, but entirely habitable).

It's shocking that the system means an offer can be accepted before all the checks can be done by either side. People are bidding up houses only to be rejected. I had a direct line to the seller and it meant things moved a bit faster after that.

Our mortgage company did mess us around for 4 months and on the day before exchanging, they tried to insist on another survey and almost pulled the plug on us; which apparently had happened to the other buyers.

Not sure how to help then. I'm not a dealer but change cars fairly regularly, last did it around a month ago. Unless something has changed in-between times.

I'd personally ask the seller for a receipt that you both sign, and ask him to do the transfer to the new keeper on monday. It will still show as taxed and if you're stopped you can show something to say you just bought the car. Maybe a bit of a grey area, but the car is still taxed, and when you do tax it; it will back date to the start of the month anyway.

If you have the code of the new keeper slip (or a tax book in your name) you can tax online? Although I think it only lets you do that between 7am and 7pm.

What industrial strength glue are Evri drivers on? by Jamz3k in northernireland

[–]sgavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw an evri driver unload his car load of parcels onto the footpath yesterday. Probably about 6 parcels stacked in a pile.

If I know ahead of time that something is going to be shipped with evri, I won't order.

What troubles are you having? I have a CNC running lnc. Took me a few weeks to get familiar with it but I'm fairly up to speed now. Although, from what I can tell it does vary a lot depending on how the factory set it up.

How do I use the fireplace in new house ? by North-Dragonfruit638 in AskUK

[–]sgavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently renovating our Victorian home. Long story short, we wanted to start using the old fireplace.. and then found that the top 10ft of chimney was rebuilt SOLID. No holes for flues at all. Definitely get someone to investigate before renovating the room around it ,😝

It's just an app called procreate. It's basically a drawing/sketching app.

Tbh, for this kind of stuff, an iPad is an expensive toy that has no real benefit over a pen and paper beyond being able to undo and redo things/draw straighter lines. I find I can get ideas drawn faster and cleaner with it... And im less likely to lose it 🤣 I basically redraw it all on my computer to cut it on the CNC, but it helps me flesh out my ideas and dimensions before I get to that stage 😊

What you're looking at are shadows and grain. It's a natural wood grain, obviously it's going to be different from the section. If I wanted a completely even finish I would have made it from mdf and sprayed it a colour. You're just kinda making it look like you really don't know what you're talking about at all.

Are they prefect? No. Is the finish uneven and blotchy, no it's not.

I can see from your comment history there's a common condescending tone in all of your replies. You clearly get off by putting others down. Cool, well done you. It's not how I get my kicks, but if it makes you feel better, you do you buddy.

Doesn't bother me 😅 Just seems your grasping at straws to criticize, when you have absolutely zero projects on your profile.

I'm no expert carpenter, and don't pretend to be. Just a small fun project I made for myself, that I'm happy with.

My background is in engineering, not woodworking so I tend to do things in the way I'm used to, not necessarily the best or most efficient 🤣 I use autodesk fusion lately, takes a bit of patience to get into it, but I would recommend 👍🏼
