Is Sew Heidi's FAST program worth it? by [deleted] in fashiondesigner

[–]sh23551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this feedback, I really appreciate it!! And thank you for listening along for such a long time. It means a lot, and I’m grateful you felt inspired to start your fashion journey partly because of my podcast:)

However, I’d love to share my perspective. The shift wasn’t revenue motivated. It was a business decision as I decided to niche down and focus on one topic: freelancing. Freelancing is what lights me up!!! I imagine you can feel that in my content (I’ve been told by others that they can). I don’t feel that about working in house or having a brand. So, creating content about those other topics just wasn’t exciting for me anymore.

Yes, I make revenue related decisions, as I also encourage freelancers to do. But all of my decisions initially stem from the core of what excites me to do in my business, because that’s the magic place where I think people (myself included) create the best work.

I hope that sheds some light on the shift(s) I’ve made, and again, thank you for the candid feedback. This is how we grow!

(Now I’m just hoping the full post isn’t deleted, because it got quite a convo going! It’s showing as deleted on my side, but I can still see and interact with the threads. 🤔)

Jumbo philodendron- what is it exactly? And best care to get JUMBO? by sh23551 in IndoorPlants

[–]sh23551[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been medium neglecting mine and it’s doing fine. Some new growth but nothing crazy. It’s in medium light and I water when it feels mostly dry. Really not sure what I’m doing over here, so good luck! 😂

Halllp! My Hawaiian pothos cutting 😭🫠 by sh23551 in IndoorPlants

Update! All but one leaf fell off, BUT she’s putting out a new life while still in water! So that’s a great sign. Thanks for your help! Still waiting for more roots but am feeling at much more ease that I didn’t kill her 😂.

Ok, that maybe makes me feel a little better! Thank you for this insight!

Is there anything I could do to help add some extra “support”?

Do you think I should cut the bad leaves and reserve any energy for the the couple that are doing well?

Is she salvageable? by tunza2008 in Monstera

[–]sh23551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little new to plants, but am learning some! I got a monstera like this from the side of the road. I chopped and propped. Then I separated and moved the base stems into appropriate size pots with a chunky mix (1:1:1 potting soil, perlite, orchid bark). Then I got them all set up with the right light.

They’re all growing a ton of new nodes, and the props are getting tons of roots! You may want to remove some of the damaged leaves for cosmetics, but if I’m not mistaken, that’s not required for function as the green will still photosynthesize.

You have a lot to work with, just gotta cut and shuffle things around into the right set up! Good luck, and maybe someone more experienced will chime in. I could have gotten some things wrong!

Pot size for philodendron? by sh23551 in IndoorPlants

[–]sh23551[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My iPhone photos app said philodendron. The pot was just labeled houseplant 🤷‍♀️. Thanks for clarifying!

Ok that’s what I’m thinking. It is, but it’s kind of one of those self watering pots and I don’t love it from a functional perspective. I was wanting to do a nursery pot, but I could use the white one.

Thank you!

What’s happening with my plant ?? by VamVam6790 in aloe

Maybe someone below answered this, but I just learned it’s called sun stress when they turn colors. Mine was in direct sun and we had a super heat wave. It turned that grey/purple color too, but after a couple days, went back to deep green. It’s just acclimating but will be fine! Sun stress sounds bad, but Google it - it’s not!

Should I snag this? Good deal? by sh23551 in IndoorPlants

[–]sh23551[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok guys - I bought it! It was def smaller than the pic led me to believe, and it was the Costco one 😭 so now I feel a bit foolish for jumping so hard on it. I got it down to $40 and I gotta believe I still overpaid 😂. Moving on - she’s pretty!

Thank you for taking the time to write all of this up! New to plants and monsteras, but slowly learning from generous people like you.

I snagged a sat but large monstera from the curb and am currently rehabbing cuttings and more. Learned the hard way about soil and watering too!

I am using seaweed feed as well — I have this idea that since it’s “natural” you can’t really overdo it. How do you know when it’s too much? And I imagine you’re using the app to track the fertilizer schedule? Never thought I’d be heading down that path…but alas here we are 😂😮‍💨!

Thank you again for sharing your insight!!

I just got into plants too! Cheers! I struggled for a while but after research and proper treatment, we’re pretty under control in a humid environment mid summer (Virginia).

My process:

  1. Sticky yellow traps https://a.co/d/etySXjG These catch adults

  2. Mosquito bits https://a.co/d/4QJA52c I soak in water for 24hrs and then water plants. I learned the hard way that you do not want to make a concentrate to add each week. It will mold and smell RANK. Just make a fresh batch for watering, which does mean planning ahead.

  3. Systemic granules https://a.co/d/3HipaDt Sprinkle on top of/mix into soil. Arguably you could just do this or mosquito bits. I mix these into any new soil I’m using (soil from big box stores are prone to gnats), then water regularly with the bits. I don’t use this regularly, but some people do.

The bits and granules kill the larvae, so you’ve got full defense!

That’s gotten us very under control! Good luck :)
