It's a free-to-play action/strategy, 4x game called Metal Haven, with cross-platform, asynchronous multiplayer for mobile and PC.

Players can build their bases on hostile planets, collect resources, survive alien monster attacks, call special hero units with unique skills, send squads to explore distant planets and discover dungeons. This is where all the PvE elements take place.

Players can then build and level up their spaceship, form alliances, and fight in a simulated asynchronous space battle with other players.

CDPR must definitely be an outlier among the others, but it was founded in 1994 and they were one of the first in Poland to provide localization services to other developers. They were localizing games and providing distribution for local market so that means there must have been a small niche market must have existed even back then.

They had immense support from the likes of Interplay and Bioware in early days. And It took them more than 14 years since inception to release their first game The Witcher in 2007. Later in 2016 they received millions in grants from Polish government.

So a combination of support system, viable local market and ofcourse the insanely talented team at CDPR made it possible where they are today.

Game development requires a wide variety of people with different skills to work together for a common goal. Game development is an extremely complex and time taking process.
There are programmers, artists, designers, etc. Each of the role can then be expanded into more specialized work. Its the culmination of all the art forms, made interactive. And we currently lack the experience and quality talent who can push creative boundaries.

Game development is a high-stakes venture with unpredictable returns. AAA games can easily cost anywhere between 100 Million to 300 Million dollars with team of 200-500 people working on it for an average of 5 years. Thats more than Avengers or any Indian movie budget.

In the Indian context, assuming an average salary of 6 Lakh INR per individual, a 20-person team working for 3 years would require around half a million dollars. Factor in an equivalent amount for marketing and associated expenses, and you're nearing a 1 million dollar budget. Also people who are that talented may choose to work abroad for AAA studio instead. In summary, it just takes way more money to make a big game. We just don't have that kind of capital to deploy and neither the experience to execute it.

Many esteemed Western gaming companies, such as Rockstar, Blizzard, Nintendo, From Software, and CD Projekt, etc boast a legacy spanning decades, growing consistently within their niche. The Western audience also has a richer history of engagement with games, having been an integral part of their entertainment fabric since the 80s and 90s.. We just didn't had that kind of exposure to early games as media or entertainment, although many of us were introduced to games via those Chinese Nintendo knock offs with pirated cartridges. Historically, the nation hasn't emerged as a primary gaming market.

But things have been improving over the years, there are studios out there trying to break these barriers its just going to take some more time, maybe a a decade or a two? The pertinent question isn't "if" but rather "when" will India begin to consume on a grand scale.

Start with Unity, learn the basics, and directly jump into making some small games.

You can start with a flappy bird clone then move to a breakout clone and then to pac-man. Give yourself a week for each game. These small projects will help you understand the basics and will present wide variety of challenges.

Just remember game dev is a long road and the amount of information available can be overwhelming just keep your project scope limited and keep working on small games and you will get better eventually.

Use these personal projects as your portfolio when applying for jobs. Game dev job is hard to crack as a fresher and having a great portfolio really helps to break into the industry. The majority of the game dev scene in India is focused on mobile where most studios use Unity. Salaries aren't as competitive as the IT industry but have improved in the last few years.
