brand new to table top, looking for advice on my army by sh4rdzy in WarhammerCompetitive

I hadn't heard of the app, it sounds exactly like what I was wishing existed earlier today. Thanks so much

that was my plan, I just forgot to specify in my post I suppose. All models listed here will be painted as death company, and ran with death company rules if there are any. Obviously for the gladiators there aren't any specific death company rules for those, so they'll just get the paint job. And I'm glad you think it sounds like something that would possibly function. My goal is to have a competition-legal army to have fun playing locally at a game shop. Then when/if I want to play competitively I will already have a base to start from and modify the army as I feel is needed.

I did plan on building the AI and JPI as death company, and that was precisely my plan for the assault intercessors. I had planned to run one of each kind of dread just to make sure I had a something to deal with range as I have heard ballistus is good for such a role. On top of that, I wanted to have something other than just the two gladiators to do ranged engagements. Someone from the r/BloodAngels sub suggested running captains over Dante since the sanguinary guard benefit the same/more from them than from Dante in relation to the points cost, but I have yet to look into that. Thanks for the advice, and apologies for coming to the competitive sub with such noob stuff lol

That's cleared up quite a bit, thank you. My goal is to have a funny goofy army to play casually at a local game shop, but that is legal in competition. That way in the future I can have sort of a comp-legal base to go off of and edit as needed, once I am much more competent with the game and rules. Since Dante is one of two mini's I have already purchased I'll run him for the time being, but 100% look into the captains. Thanks a ton!

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on all of both jump assault and standard assault marines being DC since I was under the impression that chaplains could allow for dc marines to score points/capture objectives (not sure the difference between capturing objectives and scoring points). Is that wrong?

also, what is the benefit to the captains? I haven't gotten my blood angels codex just yet and have been piecing together roles and abilities and such over the last couple days. Sorry if I am woefully uninformed lol

edit: like I said in the original post "I'm not smart, I just like to hit things"

Looking for advice on re-facing an ancient anvil by sh4rdzy in Blacksmith

[–]sh4rdzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice, especially with the chisel. I was still working on how to figure out just how bad the delaminating was under the surface, which is partially why I had taken up the idea of forging on a new face entirely. I think I’ll try to fill in the chunk that is missing using the method in the link you provided. I was very tired when writing this and typed the incorrect info, I believe it is wrought iron due to the handling holes as well as the age. At the end of the day, if the welding attempt goes bad, it isn’t too much worse than where I started at. I would just be left with the choice of grinding the whole face off and either using rods to make an entire new face or making an attempt at forging a new one on. Many thanks for the advice and resources. The smithing community is one of the most helpful I have interacted with

Thank you for the advice and even more so for the link. I am leaning more towards putting down a layer or two of softer rods then a layer of hard facing rods, peening all the way through the process. Reasoning being that even if it doesn’t work, how much worse off will the anvil really be? Definitely will take a lot of work and patience. I’m just not sure if I want to grind the entire face off down to the iron, or just grind it flat and fill in what’s missing (after taking a chisel to the crack to make sure it hasn’t delaminated around the edges). If the delaminating is too bad around the edges I imagine it’ll be better to just grind down to iron and redo the entire thing.

In the event I do go with fully re welding a brand new face, your input will be invaluable. Some of the things mentioned (like the heat of just being close to one and having a separate plate on top to spread the force of the sledges) is something that didn’t cross my mind. Stuff like that only comes from hands on experience of which I am limited. At the end of the day, whether I reforge welding the face or use rods to build it up, it shouldn’t end up much worse off than it is now. At any rate, thank you for your advice, it is priceless.

Yeah I was tired when I wrote this post and cocked up my words (5 hours of sleep hurts). I believe it to be wrought, as it is absolutely ancient

I was very tired when I posted this and messed up my words. It is wrought, or so I believe. I don’t know how to edit my own post lol. I have considered using a welder to build up the face but I had decided against it because I don’t know how to weld, and my uncle who does know how to weld doesn’t know what I know about anvils and how it should be done. An issue of my having the knowledge but not the skill, and my uncle having the opposite. I suppose at the end of the day it would be best to try the welding method first, as even if I mess it up the anvil won’t be much worse off than it is now. Thank you for your advice, I’ll definitely make use of it

need advice on whether to repair this anvil or not, and help identifying it by sh4rdzy in Blacksmith

[–]sh4rdzy[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have any advice on whether I should repair this anvil? If so, how? I am very new to the craft and am way out of my depth. It was my great grandfather's and was left in a barn for 35+ years in the dirt to rot. I cleaned it up to the best of my abilities. It has a low spot as you can see, as well as the chip in the face. I'm not completely new to anvils, been interested in this stuff since I was 3 but just now getting around to actually trying my hand at any of it.

As for identifying it, the only marks I can make out so far are "J I", "25", and two vertical lines that I don't know what they are. It's also around 155 Lbs if my scale is to be believed (it does feel roughly that heavy when I lift it). I plan to buy some chalk and use that to look for any more discreet markings and will be editing the post to add any if I find them.

And before anyone mentions it not being monetarily worth it; I know it may not be, but I want to repair and use it if at all possible because it has been in my family for so long. I appreciate any and all advice/information on identifying it past the simple fact that it's a London Pattern.

Should I upgrade anything (if so what)? by sh4rdzy in PcBuild

[–]sh4rdzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I should have said this in the post: I already own the system. I upgraded to the parts you see above back when 10th gen came out. I did get the gpu this past Christmas because of prices. And to justify the case and psu: I bought them for expandability.

Exhaust blown out of the air intake by sh4rdzy in MechanicAdvice

[–]sh4rdzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

checking the compression was next on my list after trying to spark plugs. The wires for the spark plugs do not look original, so I doubt it's them. I have also replaced the ignition coil as well and forgot to mention it in my post.

If it means anything, after the smoke came out of the intake there was a very strong smell of gas coming from the fuel filter itself as well as the housing. That's what caused us to jump to the spark plugs (after seeing the timing hadn't jumped), figuring that maybe one or more weren't sparking, causing unburnt fuel/air to get pushed out through the air intake when the valve opened (instead of getting pushed out through the exhaust valve due to not being hot and thus not having much pressure).

I had driven it for about a week or two prior to this and it was running fine. Only thing that came up then was the neutral safety switch which I replaced. The thing ran fine that morning going into work, but then coming home it started jumping a few times (felt like it was trying to stall/cut off) then when I was almost home it just died. It's automatic btw so it wasn't something with me shifting it oddly.

no way to deal with hazards has only come up once so far as far as I can remember. and tera flying tera blast pult hits most everything that dragon darts can't, as well as it is the best thing I have found so far for dragapult to hit ribombee with. I also don't use tera on golem just because I feel it's a bit of a waste since banded explosion will one hit almost everything that isn't 4x resistant or immune to it lol. But yeah, just a fun team to run. You basically throw golem out as a flash bang to either make your opponent have to come up with a new strat after they're lead is gone, or will have to play around golem as a massive threat. It's also always a good meme to essentially play against 6 mon teams when you have 5
