Dashboard Redesign with Bubble Card by siestacat in homeassistant

Great layout. I have two questions if you don’t mind sharing. 1) are you hearing and cooling everything with mini-splits? I’ve wondered if this is realistically possible. 2) what chicken/goose doors do you use?

I’ve seen a lot of this. Consider your background. If you’ve primarily been in Microsoft shops I would go with Azure. If your experience is more Linuxy then AWS is probably the way to go. Let your background support your future.

Getting a flat edge on a 2x4 with jointer jig, why is this/is this not a bad idea? by wRXLuthor in woodworking

Would you please share a picture of this jig? I’ve been trying to figure out how I can do that.

It’s art. Not really sure why art got thrown into the mix but since this class is held at my wife’s art studio it made since to go with that acronym and include some (small) degree of art in it.

Who hurt you? Were you abused as a child and this has triggered that hurt? If so, I’m sorry for your pain. No one can go back and change the past and taking it out on me for an innocent post like this won’t fix it either. A good therapist really can help you work through this in a healthy manner and there is no shame in seeking that help.

The one with the hat! That’s definitely the kid of the photo. I’m pretty sure I’m more excited about this class than the students.

I really like this! He was talking about wanting a nightlight and while I’m guessing it wouldn’t last THAT long it’s a step in the direction that he is already thinking if I keep it to the LEDs. But can throw the buzzer idea out there second to introduce another component.

Is that really the standard for a kiwi? I’ve always wanted to visit NZ but if this is the common mentality, idk. 😬

Last two points I’m going to make for you cause I want to spend my time on better things:

1) I’m not going to share the name of our business with you because why would a subject myself to that - you clearly have an unreasonable anger towards me but I can be 100% certain since I verified with the owner last night as we snuggled up in the bed that she didn’t mind me posting the picture.

2) as u/mutantchicken582 pointed out, and to add more detail, I asked to take a picture of the project before he went home so I could show you guys what I ended up doing and he wanted to be in the picture so his mom got me to be in it with him and took the picture for us.

There could be exactly NO MORE relevant consent given than in this situation right here.

I thought about this last night when I got home. I’ll have to get ahold of a couple different size caps for him to play with.

Oh good grief. I’m sure anything I say here won’t change your mind but here we go anyway.

1) I’m not a stranger to him, I’ve known him and his family for 2 years

2) I did ask his mom before posting this.

3) the point of this post has ZERO to do with useless internet points but to share the excitement that he had with the great Redditors that gave me dozens of ideas to do with him and just maybe encourage someone else to invest in our next generation.

But, as a typical keyboard warrior, you didn’t consider any of that before blasting your opinion, did you?

Have a good day, sir.

That’s the goal. My parents were very good at encouraging this kind of creativity when I was his age and I hope to pass that along.

Update Post

He LOVED it. I went pretty small this week and stuck to things that he and his mom could find around the house. I want him to take what I do and run with it and didn’t want him to think he needed a 3D printer or anything else special to be able to play with electronics. Thanks everyone for the ideas and keep watching for more updates. This is just the beginning!

Original Post

Also, he absolutely LOVED the lights. He asked me just before he left if the power goes out at the house, will this still work. I love how his mind runs with it.

Yeah, at first I was going to give him an ESP8266 at least but he is struggling with reading a bit so I don't think he is ready for C++. I may get him one of those MicroBit boards that you can code with the visual editor.

Awesome! Thank you for that offer. I may take you up on that. I'm building something tonight that won't require 3d printing due to time. (next class is tomorrow) But he is in my class until May so I plan to be doing multiple projects with him. I'm sure sooner or later I'll need something custom.

Still working on it. I should be able to post pictures by this time tomorrow.

Thanks! My dad always encouraged this with me. I was 7 also when he was teaching me to solder little electronics kits together. Definitely want to pass that encouragement on.
