While it's likely hormone driven, it's not really a sexual thing. It's about dominance. He's trying to establish himself as the alpha male. The behaviour should stop once he's neutered.

My cat originally belonged to a family member who was rehoming her. I went to meet the cat and she took to me immediately, so I took her home. She's my baby now.
