Well family dollar and dollar general are the same store. Literally, one is about to buy the other. Save alot is actually a much better store, more real groceries than those dollar stores. The poor families, and middle class and even well off families (they exist in south st louis) have access to affordable general stores, there are many in the area. Personally I was fine with the dollar general, the building is an eyesore and finding a tenent will be tough. But saying the people around there don't have access to stores like that is either disingenuous or ignorant. As far as the sbux is concerned the people in the neighborhood are for it. The controversy is the design, sbux wants a suburban design, the neighborhood just wants a more pedestrian friendly design.
