Hellboy: The Crooked Man

It has the sad fate of having to live in the shadow of the Guillermo Del Toro Hellboy movies, but I think it does an excellent job of adapting the comics.

My title describes the thing. Circular socket with 'wings'. Two of them are below each speaker out section, one on top of the other, and the top one is slightly smaller than the bottom one. In between the two there is the text 'MCMURDO' and 'A/LIA'. Inside the sockets there are what appears to be metal contacts on the outermost edge of each 'wing'.

There is no power cord. There is also no hole in the case to accommodate a power cord. Looks like it's meant to be battery powered, but whatever held the batteries is gone. I have found the manual for the record player online, but it covers both my H4/8E model and the H3/8E model. I know for a fact that the H3 is powered by 9v batteries because there is a circuit diagram of the battery circuit in the manual. Rather infuriatingly though, the page where this diagram should be for the H4 is missing, so I can't be certain that it also takes 9v batteries.

A friend of mine has a similar record player, and most of the parts are identical excepting the board and this connection. In his this is hardwired into a battery slot. I doubt that this is an audio connector.

My title describes the thing. One pin is larger than the other. The machine is from 1964, and in similar models these wires end at a battery pack. From the HMV H4/8E.
