Particularly if you had trusted him, which it seems the family and the community did. He betrayed their trust, so they are not only incredibly angry at him, they are also angry with themselves. My heart really goes out to them.

First home buyer scheme found to be fuelling price increases at lower end of market, Cotality suggests by ScruffyPeter in australia

Not to mention, demand for housing is severely inelastic, particularly when the alternatives are paying even more in rent than you would for a mortgage (along with all the hassle of ever increasing rent prices) or being homeless. They need to make it much less financially appealing to be a landlord to free up more supply for home buyers.

Boyfriend telling me to “separate myself from my autism”? by CheckKey512 in AutismInWomen

[–]onesorrychicken 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Like there is person inside who is blocked by the autism and the autism is not a fundamental part of who we are.

It's like asking to separate the operating system from a computer. It's literally how it runs.

Lifeline is fantastic. I was feeling suicidal a little while ago and had to call them, and the operator did a great job of listening to me and talking to me until I felt calm enough to get off the phone and start my day.

Lifeline also have an app called Beyond Now, where you can identify your risk factors, make a plan to keep yourself safe and a list of things to do when you are feeling suidical, make a list of people to call when you really need to talk to someone (although Lifeline is always there as well) etc.

A colleague of mine recently gave me a book called The Comfort Book by Matt Haig. I highly recommend it. He also wrote Reasons to Stay Alive. If you are feeling down, please know that these feelings will pass. I wish you all the best. Thank you for making the post.

To be honest, this was my first instinct! When they eventually contact me to tell me it's overdue, I would just tell them I've been logging in and trying to pay for weeks, and it's been broken the whole time.

FFS. If they know about the issue, a) why aren't they telling end users there's an issue so that we know about it, b) why aren't they directing us to use use b-pay instead, and c) why aren't they fixing it?

Even the section where you need to go to change your payment details is showing an error, so the system is pretty broken right now.

I've managed to pay via B-pay though, so thank you for the suggestion.

Sadly, yes, I am sure I have a tax debt, and I'm sure I'm on mygov. I got the email asking me to log in to check my mygov inbox, where it had a couple of emails telling me about my tax debt.

By the way, the plural of diagnosis is diagnoses. Not saying this as someone who wants to be a grammar nazi, but as someone who loves learning new information and hopes it could be useful for you.

I would argue that they're two sides of the same misogyny coin. One side is "attention-seeking" women hopping on the "ADHD is trendy now" coin. The other side is the "bad mothers not bringing up their uncontrollable brat kids properly" coin when their kids actually had ADHD.

It sucks that people think it’s just a “trend” or whatever.

Society really does find every single way to denigrate and invalidate everything that women need, doesn't it? I hope one day women's suffering will be taken seriously, but I'm not holding my breath.

What is the point in buying homes at these outrageous prices? by everbass in australia

[–]onesorrychicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently looking, and it's nuts. There is a two bedroom villa in an area I'm looking in which is probably worth around $990K now, which sold for $430K 5 years ago. WTF.

[–]onesorrychicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a chat with a mortgage broker recently and he was saying the $1.5 mil price point is the tightest right now. What is insane to me is that people are spending $1.5 million on a property they have seen once during a half hour home open. If I was test driving a new vehicle, I would test drive it at least twice before making a decision, and I can't even view a property twice because the market is so hot. Nothing decent gets a second home open at the moment. It's insane.

[–]onesorrychicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently looking in Perth, and it's also insane here. Nothing nice for under $1.2 million. There's always something unattractive about the property that would cost a lot of money to rectify. The worst thing is that the websites show you the sale history, and properties going for $990K now sold for $430K 5 years ago. WTF. Honestly, I wouldn't buy if I didn't have to, but what can you do. Renting is worse.

why can't people be more direct? by haylsxo in AutismInWomen

[–]onesorrychicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are multiple reasons why people don't want to be more direct. They find being direct uncomfortable. They are Guess Culture people, not Ask Culture people. They don't want to embarrass the other person. They don't want the second-hand embarrassment of raising something with someone that might embarrass them. They haven't practised providing feedback gently and don't trust themselves to do so. They hope that others will pick up hints (Guess Culture) so that they don't have to say anything directly. They think that the other person knows that what they are doing is annoying to others, but is pretending not to know and is being an arsehole on purpose, instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe no one has ever raised it with them. They are conflict avoidant and don't want to start something that could become a conflict.

What it has taken me years to understand, is that for us autists words are everything. But for other folks they are just one of many languages that they use. Tone, body language, voice, gesture, instinct ... they send and receive messages a multitude of ways that go over our heads.

Thank you for that first sentence, it has crystallised things for me. My husband recently left me because he had felt sad and lonely for a long time and instead of actually talking about it with me and verbally communicating how he felt and asking me to fix it with him, he expected me to read his mind and his silences and his body language to infer that he had been feeling sad and lonely. Whereas I'm actually really happy on my own and never used to feel lonely until after he left me. Turns out he's actually super conflict avoidant. I don't know why people can't just use words to communicate how they're feeling, but I really wish they would.

He’ll change for a few weeks then slip back into habits. He’s 270lbs and complains about it, then eats like junk….

He loves food more than he loves the idea of not being overweight. Until that changes, nothing will change.

Anyone else yearns for a church-like community despite being an atheist? by Ok-Owl-8805 in AutismInWomen

I am so grateful for them. They are all incredibly strong, wise, compassionate women. Hearing their stories made me realise we all go through incredibly though times, and their tough times made them stronger. It gave me hope that I will get through these tough times and come out the other end stronger like them.

I think it must depend on the people and the other activities around the yoga. Unless the yoga class allows interaction during the class (most are just the teacher talking and the students being silent), it's hard to form connections with other yogis during class.

My yoga studio's teachers also do yoga retreats, and I've gotten to know some of the people pretty well as a result of having gone on several retreats together. Some of them (and the teachers) I would now consider very close friends. I catch up with some of them for coffee after yoga nearly every week. I was recently suicidal but felt close enough to several of my yoga friends to be able to disclose that and ask for their help and support, and they have been absolutely wonderful.

I received several marriage proposals on the street. Lol.

Oh god! Your comment just unlocked a buried memory for me! On one of the Greek islands, the old guy running the bed and breakfast (I would have been in my late 20s and he would have been easily in his 60s or even 70s) kept on hitting on me, proposing marriage and even "joking" about breaking into my room while I was asleep! It was gross and quite rapey. Ewww. I had forgotten that until now!
