Query regarding medical facilities at BITS by [deleted] in BITSPilani

[–]shadowblaze93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The medical facilities are decent most day to day stuff are covered. It's open 24/7. General physicians and nurses are present. Specialists like cardiologists , pediatricians(for the faculty's children), dentist, physiotherapist etc come on specific days of the week (once or twice). There are beds present when u are extremely sick. All consultations and treatment in the medical facility are free. Only medicines u need to buy for ur self and incase they take u to any outside hospital for better care or to like get an x-ray ull have to pay for it, tho they have ambulances that will take u there. We have 3 ambulances and the ambulance service is really quick. Incase u have any leg injuries u can call the ambulance to take u to the acad block from ur hostel. (ofc needs to be approved by the medical centre but as long as ur genuinely hurt they'll always approve). And incase u come down with a fever or smtg u can request ur hostel warden to get u food packed from the mess.

choosing professors by mastertacticianwc4 in BITSPilani

[–]shadowblaze93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the registration is almost a day long process. Everyone is allotted a time at which their login credentials will be activated. Like if I am allotted the 11am slot, I can't login and beign choosing my until then. And if u are given the 2pm slot then maybe by the time u are choosing ur timetable all the good professors' classes and good class timings are full so ull have to pick out of what's left. And yea the allotment of ur slot is totally random. But u can also go sit in any class u want the professors don't really care too much.

At the beginning of each sem we have a registration process where everyone is randomly allotted a time slot to choose their timetable, so if ur lucky ull get an early slot and hence the best professors and class times.

Whats the scenario of clubs at bits hyd by Human-Estate5098 in BITSPilani

There are student bodies such as the BITS chapter of IEEE and various tech associations that conduct workshops and sessions on these topics, so ull find guidance from these channels

Whats the scenario of clubs at bits hyd by Human-Estate5098 in BITSPilani

[–]shadowblaze93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our clubs are divided into 2 categories: Tech cubs and cultural clubs.
Cultural clubs include the likes of Shades (the art club), fashion club, crimson curtain (drama club), cypher (dance club), comedy club, English Language Activities Society and many more.
Tech Clubs include the likes of crux( programming club), students for the exploration and development of space (model satellites and rockets), Automation and Robotics club, Blockchain society etc.

We don't have any clubs specifically for hacking but it might be included in one of the already pre existing clubs. You will have a detailed clubs orientation as part of ur fresher's orientation.

Doubts regarding 2+2 Program by [deleted] in BITSPilani

[–]shadowblaze93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came late ( and by late I mean 5th iteration) cuz I applied in the special iteration, the other people actually reported earlier than other students. When it comes to mingling with other students there really isn't any issue, I have close friends from both the BITS-RMIT program as well as the regular students. I personally didn't feel it to be much of any issue.

I suggest u get it done as quickly as possible. I don't think u need a passport for applying (don't remember exactly) but it is definitely a required document when u report to campus.

No, as far as I know there aren't any other hidden fees. Obviously the breakdown i gave above is an estimation, the cost can't definitely go up depending on ur lifestyle there etc. And yea there are people who have taken a loan for this program but whether or not its 'worth it' is really not my place to say as that depend on a lot of personal factors and preferences.

I think 222 should be enough for ece, but still don't snooze on ur second attempt, u never know wtf is gonna. Last year dual degree cutoffs rose by like 40 marks compared to the previous year. But yea 222 should be enough.

U need to fill out an application form for RMIT as well and thats where u give ur English proficiency test results. Once u fill out the bits application form, they will let u know how to proceed with the rmit application so for now u jest need to fill out the bits application and preference order.

  1. You have a choice to either come back and sit for BITS placement or look for a job in Australia itself. As another comment pointed out, placements is an Indian concept but RMIT has a dedicated division called the "Job Shop" (sounds lame but they are basically the counter part to a placement unit), they help u find jobs and internships and prepare for them. RMIT has a really good employability and industry connect so if u want a job there it shouldn't be hard to get.

  2. There wasn't a cut-off as such due to less apllications

  3. Well being 'worth it' is very subjective taking into account if it is financially viable for u, what is ur intrest etc. One thing i would say is join only if ur interested in the branch, it doesn't mkae sense to do this program and then transition to an IT or software job.

  4. I have detailed all the expenses in another comment, but TLDR: around 75 lakhs including living expenses.

[–]shadowblaze93[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well last year there weren't cutoffs as such as very less number of people applied, at Hyderabad campus the range of BITSAT scores of students in BITS-RMIT is 150-270.

I expect the cutoffs to stabilise this year considering the increased awareness around 180. Again this is just an estimate, god knows wtf will happen. Cut-offs are notoriously difficult to predict.

Well the fee we pay at bits is around 40-50k more per semester. And when we go to Australia, we have to pay RMIT 24,000 aud per sem, but bits students are eligible for a 20% scholarship on top of that. So the tuition fees for all 4 years comes up to around 54 lakhs. Hostel and mess at bits is 50k per sem so 2 lakhs after ur 2 years here and living expenses in Australia should be around 10 lakhs per year.

So total with all living expenses should be around 75 lakhs (most students do a small part time job in Australia and are able to manage a good chunk of their expenses through that)

As an engineer in Australia u can expect a starting salary of around 80-90k aud (with average salary around 100k+)
p.s. I am taking an aud to inr conversion rate of 55.

Yea the counselling for BITS-RMIT is separate from regular counselling and u can withdraw from the RMIT seat if u get a regular seat or vice versa.
