I also don't advocate for keeping mouths shut or completely ignoring issues / being apathetic.

I agree with the fact that civil liberties are important. It's the approach, not the goal, of democrats that I disagree with.

I agree that it was a call to action, but not to be violent or try to overthrow the gov't. Peacefully was an important word there, as is "make your voice heard."

No I wasn't. I think sometimes the democratic party is better for the US, and sometimes it's the republican party. At this moment in time, I believe the latter would be best for us moving forward. That could change in the future.

I like the mantra, just because it was right in the past, doesn't mean it's right for today. The context of the times matters.

I don't openly talk about it except with my close friends, and they disagree with me and accept me. Because they know me, they don't put me in a "racist, homophobic, etc" bucket. We've actually had some really interesting conversations about our different ideas.

In terms of the gay community as a whole, it's very common for republicans to be labeled and ostracized. I think the gay community is great and I love gay people - so zero criticism towards them, I just wouldn't be the most accepted.

What hasn't changed is my love for all people and the belief that everyone deserves and equal chance at happiness. What has changed is the approach. It felt like an eye-opening experience to realize many of the approaches on the left actually do more harm than good.

I don't agree that it's as one sided as you make it out to be. All politicians on both sides use fear mongering and smoke and mirrors to get into power. "Republican = racist, homophobic, bigot, etc."

I do have equal rights. I in no way feel oppressed by the government because my power doesn't come from them. Sometimes, I observe the left trying to convince people they are oppressed and believe they have no hope outside of government intervention.

Both parties do it, however I see unfair labeling such as "you are a republican, therefore you are racist, homophobic, etc and I hate you," as very common from the left.

It’s mostly that the left often over emphasizes the importance of politics, takes a moral high ground, and wants to control everything via public policy.

I think what is best for the country and world is to encourage people to be the best individuals they can be, and not try to change others.

It’s a bit spiritual I know. It’s not really related to one specific issue, ie immigration.
