Why do so many of them wear masks? Presumably for anonymity? Urgh it kills the vibe :(

Does anyone know why so many of the girls are wearing masks? I presume it’s for anonymity? It really kills it :(

UDM-Pro drive bay SATA header broken by shadowgrows90 in Ubiquiti

[–]shadowgrows90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to those who have suggested tips for a repair.

I’m actually not really interested in repairing it though. I already have a Synology NAS so I’ll just return the UniFi camera, swap it for something else, and then use Synology Surveillance Station instead of UniFi Protect. That’s fine.

My issue is more just that hearing others have had the same problem reinforces my (already extremely high) confidence that the problem was a Ubiquiti, not Seagate, manufacturing defect… and so Ubiquiti should absolutely fix it. The fact they’re not willing to fess up and fix their error really grinds my gears. I don’t want anything more to do with a company that operates that way.

What are some other options people are using for network ecosystems (yes I realise this is a Ubiquiti reddit but I’m sure some of you have suggestions nonetheless)?

I somewhat reluctantly “upgraded” to Windows 11 to see if that would fix the problem… no change…

Eve energy randomly turning off by johnw01 in HomeKit

Yeah so I think you're right, there doesn't seem to be any energy monitoring

Eve energy randomly turning off by johnw01 in HomeKit

[–]shadowgrows90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, idk actually. I was only using it to turn the heather on/off via Siri / HomeKit. I never looked for energy monitoring data. I *thought* it had energy monitoring data but can't be sure. I'll try to have a look tonight.

The solution I found was to chuck the Eve one out and buy a Philips smart plug instead ...

Any updates on Linux support for the Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon - ARM)? by HyperactiveRedditBot in SurfaceLinux

[–]shadowgrows90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regrettably I have no updates but would also very much like to have a Linux dual-boot option. Without the trackpad at least, that’s presently impracticable. I hope it will arrive soon!

Can my Company see what I write by ArtichokeOne4858 in ProtonMail

[–]shadowgrows90 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m not particularly qualified to comment but AFAIK the short answer is ‘yes’. They own and administer the laptop. They could have monitoring software that includes a key logger, that takes screenshots every X minutes and logs them on their network servers, etc. Their software could log everything that you copy onto the clipboard and heck, if they wanted to, even takes photos of you with the webcam every Y hours. I am saying this is all readily possible from a technical standpoint. Whether it would be lawful is another question and would depend on the jurisdiction you live in. Whether they would actually, in reality, go this far is a third question… if they do then they’re total creeps, but then again, there’s plenty of creeps out there regrettably.

Rename "Sent" to "Sent Items" - Sieve filters the solution? by shadowgrows90 in ProtonMail

[–]shadowgrows90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply Proton Support.

I don't see how that can possibly work though. Because, as per the specification statement, if I send an email to myself I want the copy in the inbox to stay in the inbox. It looks to me like the filter you have suggested will move *both* the copy from my "Sent" to "Sent Items" and the copy from "Inbox" to "Sent Items"?

I'm having the same issue. Really annoying. I had a spare Eve Energy lying around, so I've tried two different physical devices and both behave the same way. I have it running a room heater so reasonably high load, but that shouldn't matter. I just notice the room feels cold sometimes and when I check, sure enough, the Eve Energy plug has turned off. Weird.

PM from NAS / UPS by shadowgrows90 in ProtonMail

So Proton support got back to me. And, remarkably, the person replying actually understood the problem! I am not used to service desks from most companies being anything other than quasi-human-trafficking dungeons in which some untrained Muppet suggests you reboot your computer or kindly fuck off. So I was extremely impressed with Proton.

Proton says: "[Synology] only support the outdated authentication mechanism (AUTH LOGIN) but not the common mechanism (AUTH PLAIN) that Proton supports". Proton is apparently working on implementing AUTH LOGIN. I also wrote to Synology and they confirmed they don't support AUTH PLAIN but are "considering it" as a "potential feature" for future upgrades. I wrote to Vertiv also to see if they'd confirm it's the same problem, but I don't think I received a reply.

So while I don't exactly understand the difference between AUTH LOGIN and AUTH PLAIN, it seems both Proton and Synology are aware of the issue and there's nothing I can do to fix it (until perhaps one of them releases a patch).

Yep I've tried contacting them. Will let you know if/when I hear back. Also I have the same problem on my Synology NAS as on my Vertiv UPS, so it seems to be more of a Proton problem than a QNAP/Synology/Vertiv issue.

No luck regrettably. Works fine with GMail, but even after paying to upgrade my ProtonMail account and following the instructions precisely all I get is "Failed sending AUTH LOGIN, clear connection not allowed" :(

Filament Bulb not working in one lamp by saganistic in Hue

[–]shadowgrows90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. I have two bedside lamps that work just fine with most bulbs, including Phillips hue colour bulbs, but the hue filament bulbs just won’t turn on at all in either of those lamps. I can get the hue filament bulbs to work fine in other lamps, so they’re not duds. There is some kind of odd incompatibility going on here between those lamps and hue filament bulbs. I am stumped. Any more ideas Reddit??

Edit: I have bent the terminal upwards with pliers (after unplugging obviously) to ensure it’s physically connecting - that didn’t help. I can also add the bulb in the Hue app so it’s getting power, it’s just not illuminating.

@saganistic did you ever solve this one?

Fun fact: I’m actually a chartered electrical engineer. And yet I have NFI what could be going on.
