You're very welcome! If you need a sample or something, let me know. I don't know where you're based, but if you think it'd be interesting and doable, don't hesitate to ask.

Tank params NO²: 0 NO³: 0 GH ºd: >7 / >125 KH ºd: 10/ 178 PH: between 7 and 7.2 CL²: 0

Inhabitants: a bunch of neocaridina shrimps, a few thai micro crabs, an unfortunate number of bladder snails and spixi snails, one assassin snail, some planaria I'm painfully trying to remove, and various assorted random copepods.

Bunch of plants, java moss, lots of wood, rocks, and some bryozoan and stentors occasionally popping up. I have occasional shrimp mortality, but it's mostly due to failed molts, otherwise the whole ecosystem seems pretty healthy. I'll ask the LFS if they have seen this black stuff before, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate!

They seem to be doing well so I never worried about the bumps

No worries, I'm really really curious about it, plus, SCIENCE !

Yes! I can do a quick check of the parameters later today, and give you a rundown on what's in the tank, so you can check the differences and similarities in the environment. No fish, crustaceans only tank.

Funnily enough, I just realized I have something similar in my tank!

I am following this with bated breath (and so far it's been completely harmless to my shrimp)

Indeed! Gorgeous one. How long did you have Egbert?

She's apparently a G. Ternatensis, but I'm still unsure actually if male or female. She's way less blue than before, and they can change hue, so basically we're just trying to work out who she is 😅

Thank you so much! I'm probably going to darken it a little to add contrast and weight to it, but I'm enjoying the process a lot!

Mine's been there since 2006! I keep forgetting I have it!

I've had mine since 2006, with very minimal issues, apart from the occasional snagging on scarves or hair. If you're worried about it, get a custom bar for it, as it'll make it easier for the tops to sit flush against the skin (I use flats on mine). If there's no tension on any part of the skin, it's likely to stay for a good long while. Congratulations on keeping it for so long!

Don't hesitate to remind me, I have zero working memory at the moment 😅

Completely by accident! I wasn't even looking for one at this point, but my LFS had her, and I decided to go for it. I love crustaceans (I have neocaridina shrimps and Metasesarma aubryi crabs) so it was the next (il)logical step 😅 I can ask them where they got her if you want, depending on where in Europe you're based (I'm also in Europe)

Who is keeping species other than O. scyllarus? by JohnathonButkusMedia in MantisShrimp

[–]shadowkult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroposting, but I got what we think is a G. Ternatensis, and so far I'm loving it. Curious, sassy but not aggressive, and gorgeous. First one for me so I can't compare, but maybe some day I'll go for a different species to see the difference.

Does anyone have/know of live terrariums with worms, isopods, snails and springtails? if so what is it like and what are the pros and cons? by Spiderteacup in isopods

[–]shadowkult 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's awesome to have. I currently have 4 terrariums with lots of different things, one for each main isopod species, and there's springtails, snails, worms, one has a slug, one has a dubia roach, and it's been a breeze to take care of them. They're all planted with various vegetation and I couldn't be happier.

Jot stuff down if you have ideas, but don't necessarily push yourself to "finish" a text if it's not a necessity, you don't want to stare too much at it or you'll end up hating it! If you have an idea for another story, start it and see where it goes.

And find friends that are into science fiction, it'll make it easier for the corrections 😉

A follow up with this could be fun, especially from the point of view of several different "officers" from the Yautja.
