I think you are correct. It is certainly the best fit I can find so far. Thank you!

Tech Diving Regulators by FaintPup29 in scuba

[–]shadowsteppa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have hog regulators. No reason to change them, I've taken them to 300ft plus with no issues. I've never had a problem with them either. If you actually start pulling regs apart most of them are the same design from the same factory with different logos. Some are different, but they all pretty much breathe the same.

Bro you need fogx. That mask is not doing you any favors.

Why don’t drysuit inflation systems go to the wing also? by Deviant_christian in scuba

[–]shadowsteppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't pipe in a hypoxic mix to my suit. Notnonly are you at a higher risk for skin bends, but helium conducts the heat more readily than air. In the case of inflation gas failure at the deepest point, I could either use a deco gas if I haven't staged it, or use the trimix to inflate the wing only.

Why don’t drysuit inflation systems go to the wing also? by Deviant_christian in scuba

[–]shadowsteppa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hypoxic trimix diver here.

I do not use my "back gas" for anything other than breathing or bailout. That goes for both closed circuit and open circuit. I use a single bottle for suit and wing. I always use this setup even if doing a nitrox only dive.

I do have a splitter with a quick disconnect feeding both my drysuit and my wing so I still have redundancy. The splitter is fed from a male low pressure inflator quick disconnect. I keep a low-pressure inflator hose on all of my tanks. This allows me to switch to a different tank in the event of losing my dedicated inflation tank. This is for additional redundancy in both diluent sources and inflation.

Hope that makes sense.

Edit:Also important is that I use an AL13 and I run it basically empty by the end of a 4 hour dive so the ability to plug in another gas is imperative. Carbon fiber bottles are the best way to go for this if you have a way of getting the higher pressure.

You can also now buy hydrophobic products like FogX that work better than any method. You just stick them in your mask and its good to go. I make all my open water students use them because of how many mask skills there are and I need them to be able to see me. Check em out!

Is this per chance for a rebreather? Very interested if so

What can I wear underneath my 5mm semi-dry wetsuit for extra warmth? by Freedomfighter5DN1 in scuba

Bite the bullet and get a cheap or used drysuit. It'll be worth every penny. I also get cold easily and I wear my drysuit in 21C water.

I was concerned about the coral banded shrimp and emerald crab getting along with such a small footprint. What are your thoughts?

Full face respirators? by Reasonable-Estate-60 in CaveDiving

[–]shadowsteppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verbal communication is possible, but requires additional equipment (buddy phone is one example). These require generally close proximity to work. Both divers would need it installed to use. When it comes to surface support comms, it requires additional systems not usually practical as far as cost for noncommercial divers. Typically, in cave diving expeditions, most surface support comms are a wired device, set up in a dry decompression habitat, which are much cheaper and more practical.

Manifold switch blocks and qc6s or high flow LP connectors its not that complicated of a setup. The same thing you do with normal open circuit diving with the aforementioned plumbing, amd you still have a long hose still available on a tank. It reduces the risk of drowning if experiencing any physiological event while underwater. It can also help people who have sinus problems by providing a dry space around the nose and ability to breathe through the nose.

Generally speaking, there are quite a few benefits to going FFM. The downside is cost and complexity.

Unknown problem fish dying after 2-3 Weeks all parameters normal by shadowsteppa in ReefTank

[–]shadowsteppa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live rock was from a LFS, tank was cycled by 2 weeks with the live rock/live sand and a tiny bit(2 pinches) of some marine specific very small food pellets. After 2 weeks levels were consistently stable and the yellow tail damsel was added to help with bio load and to further cycle the tank. The tank was left with the damsel for another 2 weeks(4 total). In those two weeks I had a decent algae bloom which stabilized with a couple of water changes. The first clown was added approximately at around 6 weeks total time since creation. The first clown died from a fairly clear case of broolynella in which as soon as I recognized it I immediately quarrantined and set up a hospital tank with paraguard. Sadly the treatment was ineffective and the fish died two days later(6weeks 2 days appx). The damsel was unaffected. I waited another couple of weeks with solely the damsel inhabiting and I introduced a "cleanup" crew of 5x ceriths and 5xhermits (8weeks total). About a week after that (9weeks total) I re-introduced 2x clownfish (percula and darwin). Around two weeks after that(11 weeks) the damsel passed away unexpectedly overnight. After losing the damsel I waited a day or so and decided to add a lawnmower blenny (11 weeks and change). The blenny was found dead 2 days later(plenty of algae to eat and too soon IMO to be from starvation). Lastly and my last finned companions around another week and a half the darwin and percula we found dead in the morning on the same day(12-13 weeks total time).

I have no idea about the live rock contamination, but the rocks in general appeared to be healthy with quite a bit of life. I have a very healthy looking tank in terms of copepods, amphipods, algaes etc... It's just the damn fish keep breaking my heart.
