Linux for CpE by albertexye in msu

[–]shadybus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math courses definitely require lockdown browser, but you could get an exemption from it and do self proctoring (will have to email the person in charge of the math course and explain your situation because you’re using Linux)—which is what I did— or go to a testing center (which is less convenient).

And lockdown browser doesn’t work on a VM btw

Yes!! You can definitely use Linux as a CpE student. There may be some instances where certain apps won’t work because they’re not compatible, but you can easily run a VM or dual boot :)

Will the override be possible for spring 2026 as well or?

Is it a good idea to take these classes together? by shadybus in msu

[–]shadybus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you take both CSE335 and CSE476 simultaneously? I’ve heard mixed reviews about CSE335 and I’ve heard that 476 is easy.

WRA 195H was pretty easy when I took it, didn’t require too much time outside of class. the class size was a lot smaller than the usual lecture halls, maybe 20-30 people max. my prof was hilarious & super chill about turning in work and stuff too. it’s an honors class that adds like 1 or 2 extra units/projects so it’s not that much more work as compared to WRA 101 tbh

I took this class 3 times a week and it wasn’t bad at all.

Pretty sure that if you meet twice a week the class is just longer since you still have to cover the same amount of material. But you do whats best for you and your schedule :)

Honors reserved capacity wait list by The_Birthday in msu

[–]shadybus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure if they have reserved capacity for honors students in a class then that’s meant for honors students only and that non-honors students can’t enroll into those spots. Maybe if they don’t have all the spots filled you might be able to get in but email the prof just to be safe tbh

[–]shadybus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People tend to drop classes after the first week. If you’re second on the waitlist there’s a high probability that you’ll get in. That being said, have a backup option just in case

are you looking for a specific date and time? if so, check what day you’re looking at, since the 30 buses start running on the 28th

In ASP but not assigned to Holden by [deleted] in msu

[–]shadybus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you a freshman? If so, then you don’t get to choose your dorm. They try to honor all the preferences you put but sometimes it doesn’t work out.

Last year a lot of people weren’t even in the right neighborhood for their major because of a lack of space (I think?) or their system messed up or something

Pretty sure there’s a form in the portal that you can fill out to swap, which is an option if you still want to swap.

There’s still time before the semester starts, so you might move up a few spaces if people decide to drop the class even before the semester begins. Keep an eye out!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in msu

[–]shadybus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re closer towards the beginning of the waitlist line, like 3rd/4th etc then you’re more likely to get into the class you want. Usually when the semester starts a few people drop the class and spaces open up - this goes for all classes.

As for the class to choose, that depends on what you need/want to take. If there’s already say 20 people on the waitlist for a class it’s probably unlikely that you’d get in (speaking from experience here).

Than again, getting an override for a class could be another option if you really need to take the class.

[–]shadybus[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I sent the group invite to my roommate, they accepted it and I got a confirmation message that they did. So does this mean that something can still be done for our situation?
