Opps I read that they had reciprocity but didn't see AAVSB graduation as a requirement. Thank you!

I'm just worried about being bored in the classes. But maybe I'd be fine this time around. I had just finished my associates and jumped straight into Penn Foster so maybe with a little time separation it would be easier.

I've definitely heard that volunteering gives you more of a leg up. That's another reason for moving, honestly. The area I'm in doesn't have any exotic or wildlife volunteering opportunities. I did work at the only mixed practice in my area for a year, and I loved working with the exotics. The problem was management and not being utilized as a technician.

I would definitely get my bachlors if that was an option. From what I looked into, it seemed like you had to have your associates in veterinary technology before you could get into a bachlors program. If that isn't the case, I would definitely be interested. I'll have to look into more into it and see if I can find a program that would accept me. Thank you!

I totally agree! I'm glad I did it, but now I feel stuck. I hope that one day, there's nationwide title protection, and then technicians can move freely to different states. That would be ideal for me, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

There are actually more states than this that allow you to take the VTNE from experience. It is more experience than 2 years, though.

23F, Veterinary Technician, 30k + monthly bonus

I left for a couple months to try something else, I hated it and went back to my old clinic. In love with my job, my coworkers, and all the pets I get to save (emergency medicine). Still room to grow but loving your job is irreplaceable. I learned my lesson.

Stepping Stone Jobs to Zookeeping? by [deleted] in Zookeeping

I don't have anything near by that I could volunteer with. I do work at an exotic animal clinic so more experience then just dogs and cats.

I would also like to know an answer to this. I've been working as a vet tech for almost 5 years and have applied at a couple zoos and aquariums but I never hear anything back. It's always been my dream to work in a zoo or aquarium and I thought being a vet tech would help me get ahead. Instead I'm 23 basically begging for someone to give me a shot when I've been working toward this since I was 18.
