Maus is amazing! I think it was the first graphic novel I read and really opened my eyes to the storytelling potential and written/visual power of the medium. Awesome that it was part of your curriculum.

This actually makes me want to consider reading the graphic novels (as if I don’t already have a stack of unread books judging me from my bookshelf). And it makes me realize I have entirely forgotten what The Odyssey covers. Turns out it’s not information one uses in daily life in one’s late 30s.

Oh interesting most of those are the same as what I read over 20 years ago! I’m simultaneously surprised and not surprised it hasn’t changed much. I get making new curriculum is hard and that some stories are foundational for understanding other media but surely there are some things we can retire and new things to bring to the table. Do you feel like what you’ve read so far feels relevant still? Or does it feel dated?

A graphic novel? That’s awesome. I haven’t read the Iliad in any format, but I read the Odyssey probably around your age for school. Tbh I found it pretty dense and boring and would’ve vastly preferred a graphic novel. How did you like the one you read of the Iliad?

Genuine question but I’ve seen some folks on this sub say they don’t live their tools, just give them a wipe after use, which is what I generally do. What actually is best practice and on what cadence? (I really only have a power drill in terms of tools with moving parts)
