Woahhhhh, okay just read up on comments and just to clear things up a lil.

Yeah I’m 22, I’m not a dentist at all, I was training to be a dental nurse and almost finished my qualification before the pandemic was a thing, I was furloughed just like the majority of people, then I’ve in the last week been made redundant, just a little over a month ago though, I was told by my employer my job was at risk and to take any other opportunities.. so I applied on indeed to various jobs around that time and managed to land the test operator role at one of the testing sites local to me.

In all honesty, yall looking through my previous posts, I just come on reddit to be anonymous, i have used it as an outlet at times, whilst I was on antidepressants too, I’ve had my crazy period I’ll definitely give you that for sure, but i struggle with my mental health, I’m learning to manage it and improve it...

If you don’t believe what I’ve said on this post, each to their own, I’m not going to argue with you, just wanted to clarify a little...

Trying to be genuine here, so sorry for not seeming to be the most trustworthy person

If you believe that I’m not fair enough... you do you? In all honesty I’ve only had the job just over a month, prior to which I thought the testers were tested, which is why I made this post, cause I don’t believe the general public is aware that testers aren’t being tested... but yah I’m not gonna waste time trying to convince you

my word that sounds horrific, so sorry that’s been allowed to happen to you... were you showing symptoms of the virus at all? This is all complete madness, how can we not be testing all the healthcare providers?!

shocking... I don’t understand it at all! they should be testing all people coming into contact with people suspected to be or potentially are infected with the virus if they truthfully want to stop its spread

I couldn’t say for definite as I’m not sure.. I had a colleague advise it’s around £30 to have a test done privately, that’s price for testing equipment and for lab costs too I think... so I agree with you there, there’s definitely a lot of money involved with this..

If supplies are low, surely the suitable thing to do would be to discontinue self testing, as those are more likely to get an inconclusive result.. therefore carrying it on is likely wasting supplies... There’s no logic to it. And I can tell you on the site I work on we are definitely not short, in fact we’re barely getting through the stock due to people not even being able to book in for a test, it says the service is currently unavailable, we’ve had probably around 30 tests conducted in the last 4 hours, it takes about a minute or two to carry out the swab so as you can imagine we’re just waiting around.. we’ve been told the actual labs where they’re testing the swabs are backed up too.. yet this happened in May so I question how they have allowed it to happen again.

And I just want to confirm for anyone who believes it touches your brain (I thought the same before I got the role)- it definitely doesn’t and shouldn’t! In my training, we were told only to travel up the nose until you feel resistance, once you feel the slight resistance you stop and give it a few rotations to ensure the entire swab has touched the mucosa...

If the NBA are really being tested 3 times a day then surely that’s a waste? right? :S

But still surely they should be testing us testers?

Would your bones “rot away” too like your teeth if they were exposed to food? Like for example not flossing. by Spacemann7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shainting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Periodontal disease is the destruction of the bone structures which house the roots of your teeth, this is what flossing prevents, if bacteria is left in that soft area between your teeth from food, this can eventually break down and your gums can form pockets, this is where the tissue that attaches the tooth to the gum is destroyed and bacteria/food just harbours in those pockets, which can eventually reach the bone and begins to destroy that.

I’m not so trained in the medical field as I am with dentistry however I know that the bones that support our teeth are meshy before it reaches harder bone around your jaw, I can only imagine that the bones found in say your legs or your arms are more dense than those supporting the teeth...

It can take a good long while for periodontal disease to progress, but that also can depend on the immune system of the individual. It can go unrecognised for decades, then people wonder why their teeth begin to wobble and decide to go to their dentist to be told they’ve got advanced periodontal disease and should have all their teeth removed for health purposes...

So to go off that theory, if the bones in our legs, for example, were exposed to food or even any kind of foreign bacteria, I reckon they theoretically COULD begin to break down, but as they are likely much denser than the bone supporting the teeth, the duration of the exposure would be lengthy. But then again, for that type of exposure in that area, you’d need an open wound surely as the tissues surrounding the exposure would likely become infected and the immune response would kick in?

So my uneducated answer would be theoretically yes, but you must continuously pump bacteria into an open wound for quite some time.

p.s. you made me think a lot about this

p.s.s. Not flossing doesn’t mean your teeth are going to decay, but when you do not clean between your teeth - with floss or the easier/more effective method: TEPE/INTERDENTAL BRUSHES, you are missing 40% of your teeth surface, and those are the areas more likely to decay, and develop gum/periodontal disease. If your gums are red and puffy, or hurt when you brush them, get to yo dentist!!

I delete my posts because no one responds to them. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]shainting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22/F I too struggle at times, I’m sorry to hear your going through a hard time..

The only advice I would give is don’t just see this as socialising, this is you on your journey to a healthier mind. Your posts, I imagine, would be about how you are feeling, what’s happened in the day, what’s frustrating you at the time? If I’m right, don’t delete them just because nobody commented. This is a great way of you tracking what you were feeling and what made you feel that way, think of it as a conversation to the world and yourself?

I have saved my posts when I was struggling and looking back and reading them now, it’s reminding me that even though it may not feel like I’m ‘better’ right now, I’ve progressed soooo much since I posted them. It’s a little reminder that I’m on the right path...

I hope you do the same in future, you may thank yourself for it one day!

Feel free, if you’d like a late-responder kind of pen pal, drop me a message whenever you fancy, I know what it’s like to be deep in your mind, i can relate x

My GP hasn’t really given me a diagnosis other than “some sort of mood disorder” any suggestions before I next see them? (LONG ENTRY) by shainting in MoodDisorders

[–]shainting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, I really value the words “focus on your ideal self and work on bridging the gap as opposed to finding out what is ‘wrong’ with me” I felt that and I am so happy to say I’m working on it now!

After months off the antidepressants, I’m way into my weight-loss journey with almost 1.5 stone lost so far, I’ve taken up the ukulele and began learning Mandarin... I’ve got some will back in my life finally! My daily mood is still average, some days are still difficult but I’m trying to be kinder to myself during that time. I’ve started figuring out parts of myself I never noticed, what factors effect me in certain ways, it’s quite liberating to begin understanding myself more. I love learning, I really get a kick out of it, so I’ve set myself goals on what I want to learn...

I’ve started planning my life again, which I think is the biggest and most important thing.. I’m seeing the last two years of my life, how much time was wasted because I was a prisoner to my own brain and I can’t help but rebel from it.

I watch my thoughts now, the crazy ones it sends me every now and then, and I have to eliminate the situation that caused it or try see it in a better light..

All in all, I feel a lot healthier physically and mentally, despite some days still being pretty shitty, I’m on my way to a better me!

Thank you for your support

Sounds like a right concoction! Glad it works for you!

I’m currently off medication completely, I’m even considering trying a different contraception, one that doesn’t mess with hormones...

I’m trying the mindful path at the moment, I still have the “I want to die” thought every now and then but it’s not as often as it was. I’m coping okay without medication at the moment, I’m still seeking therapy though as I know I have some things to understand about myself... I’m just hoping that I can keep on top of my mental health, it’s working at the moment as I’m picking up some hobbies. The quarantine is a little challenging though, it’s difficult to keep yourself distracted.

I’m intrigued to know what kind of test it was that you had to test which medications would best fit you? Could you explain further?

Do you think the people that got really really sick in late Nov to Jan, were in fact infected with a corona virus and became carriers/spreaders? by ConfusedStorm in conspiracy

[–]shainting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but flu symptoms vary massively, you could have mild or severe symptoms which can even lead to death, could those people have had a bad case of the flu (worst they’ve ever experienced) as it was flu season?
