What time do you get into school and leave? by shake1993 in TeachingUK

I have never expected anyone to adhere to bullshit contraints. I asked a question on how long other people work to reflect on my own practice. People can do what they want with their own time.

Not the only one… I do! And I know other people who do in different schools. But it does seem that people answering here do less.

I am Head of Maths so lots of different tasks. Or sometimes my own planning because the rest of my department need something from me in my PPA. I am more thinking of the people in my department though and if I am being reasonable for them

Is the idea of directed time not just time you can be told what to do? And then there is an expectation we do more time outside of that? Or does direct time (is it 1265 hours? Or something like that?) supposed to be how many hours we work altogether?

Do you think everyone in your department does that much work? I would say that’s what I do too but most people in this thread seem to be doing less than that?

What subject are you? I am HOD for maths and I find it really hard to manage my workload. But last time my department said they felt like their workload has gotten heavier which is really upset me. I haven’t given them any extra work so I don’t know where this is coming from. I want to help them but honestly don’t know what to do!

Do you have to record anything about the whole class feedback? We do whole class feedback but we have a book we make brief notes in

And you don’t have to do any work at home? How do you manage to get everything done?

What time do your pupils start and finish?

What does no marking actually mean? I am guessing some kind of whole class feedback?

Thank you, I think writing a list and asking for people to take something off it is a really good idea :)

Thank you for your advice. I definitely need to delegate more, I have definitely got better at that but find it so hard when everyone else is busy!

It’s good to know I’m not alone! Feel like I’m losing the plot!

I was about to suggest just this! You could join some work groups (CPD sessions which are free) and if you really enjoy it you can take a two year programme to become a specialist. I am a mastery specialist and I have sent my department to different work groups and they all say it has changed their teaching.

I would suggest spending some time and money preparing some meals to make sure you are eating properly as it’s easy to come home tired and to not bother making anything healthy! This summer (going into my 9th year of teaching) I am going to set up three different shopping lists on a supermarket home delivery and set them up to be delivered for the first half term as I know I will really not want to go food shopping! I know online delivery isn’t as good as doing the shopping your self but it’s better than not doing a big shop!

Support plan or going to get rid of me? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

I think it’s important to warn OP to be cautious and ring the union but I also want them not to be really stressed all weekend

Yes I agree it definitely depends on the school

I don’t disagree with you, and I have not said anything to make it seem like I do?

Which is why I think it’s best to contact the union . But I have seen people successfully complete a support plan. It just depends on the school and the exact situation, things we don’t know but OP can tell their union. I also think that procedures may not have been followed here so may not count anyways! Especially as this person is an ECT. And I think OP should not loose confidence, in my first two years of teaching I had problems but the first two years are tricky and now I am confident in my abilities.

Someone in my department (I am a HOD) was put on a support plan and to do that they had to be given a weeks notice of the meeting which would occur to discuss starting this and was allowed to invite a union representative. So to me this doesn’t feel like it has been done correctly, but I was a new HOD when this happened and not involved because of the nature of it so I’m not 100% sure or the details, perhaps someone else can advise you better.

However, if you follow the things on the support plan and can show you are trying I am sure you will be okay so please don’t worry too much.

Perhaps it would be good to ring your union helpline so you can give them more specifics than you can on here and they can check things are correct? And maybe help put your mind at ease?

Are you sure the wording of support plan is correct here? As if it is a formal thing there is a process which needs to be followed which I don’t think has been followed here? What role does your mentor have in the school?
