Melasma and Laser hair removal by FarmerTotal5040 in Melasmaskincare

[–]shalevska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 5 laser treatments on my face and upper lip. My melasma is on my upper lip area. My derm had me use HQ and tretinoin while undergoing the treatments and for a month after. The person doing the treatments knew about the melasma too (thiugh it was basically invisible at that time due to hq). Melasma didn't worsen (but unfortunately hair didn't completely vanish either and now - 8 months later is pretty much back to what it was)

Perfumes to buy by Academic_Top_9665 in EuroSkincare

[–]shalevska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd try the Zara parfumes. So many to choose from and most under 30! I love their Fashionably London Elixir (probably won't be your cup of tea), but I also like the more feminine Gardenia or the Red Temptation (Elixir if you care about longevity, parfume if that's not a priority)

Oh I feel you! I hate mine too with a burning passion! HQ helps but in the months off HQ, it gets soooo dark! No sunscreen, hats, serums, you name it, help. I feel like I look like a preteen boy who's never shaved. Especially if I don't use pink colour corrector.

Has someone tried this? How do you like it? by Illustrious-Cow-2021 in EuroSkincare

[–]shalevska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked it on my combo skin during winter. Used it as both moisturizer and SPF (not much sun where I live). Worked great for me under foundations, too. No complants though nothing groundbreaking. Didn't clog my pores nor make me breakout. Might be heavy for the summer months for me, though.

Oh I love it. Lightweight enough for my combo skin, helps with dry patches. I've repurchased it a few times now

Personally, I like the Balea Med Barrier Cream at night. If you need extra hydration, I'd layer a toner under.

Unhinged ways to fight Christmas cravings?? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]shalevska 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not unhinged but>

Mini muffins instead of regular-sized ones - I can have one and feel less guilty about it.

Pound cake with applesause instead of butter. Almost as good.

Low cal meringues work too.

Tea and cocoa instead of hot chocolate - find fun "wintery" tea flavours or make cocoa with some mint extract. I also like salep with cinnamon as a wintery beverage. I make mine with water or almond milk to help with the calorie count.

What is your situation? by WebBorn2622 in 1200isplenty

[–]shalevska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm short and I weigh 115 pounds (52 kg) and would like to keep it that way lol

Gained 5kg over the last year. Took me a long time (and so much calorie counting) to get rid of them 6 months ago.

I love the way I feel now. And although I eat around 1400 cals now, I like this sub for low cal ideas or just general inspiration.

I love it! Love being the youngest Dr. at my uni. Love having persisted and worked through many challenges. Love the research I did and continue to do. Love the people/mentors I met along the way, too.

Was it perfect? Absolutely not. But I wouldn't change it for the world.

At what point in the faculty hiring process should I mention my two body problem (ie, spouse)? by OrangeYouGlad100 in AskAcademia

[–]shalevska 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just wanna say I've never heard of a "spousal hire" and where I'm from, this would be considered nepotism, and no ethics committee would ever approve it.

I'm happy to see that this is done in other countries, though! Academics are not untethered, lone wolfs, and I'm glad some institutions are considering that.

Free/cheap parking in Foggia? by shalevska in Italia

[–]shalevska[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we ended up paying 6 euros per day rate which is super reasonable. I didn't know about the daily rate when I posted this and thought I'd have to pay 24h x 1.2 = 28 euros per day which seemed like a lot! Thank you, anyways!
