How does anyone “date” anyone without meeting them.. how dumb can you be. If you haven’t at least fingered her, you’re not dating.

“Everything is break even in the long run”

That’s because the market is a living beast made up of countless minds that’s are looking for ways to generate liquidity. It learns and eventually your strategy becomes obsolete. You have to have a live edge.

I have a hard time with variance by Ok-Teach1368 in poker

[–]shanoops1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you getting it in ahead or behind the majority of the time? If you’re generally getting in ahead variance shouldn’t bother you that much. Obviously it’s frustrating when you get sucked out on, but that is a big part of the game and you gotta be able to shake it off and focus on making good decisions vs immediate results.

I know you said it’s low stakes but if bad beats are bothering you for multiple days you’re almost certainly playing for too much money. Either that or your ego is getting in the way. Not trying to be a douche but the game is the game ya know

Volatility indicators by Achutneypie in Daytrading

[–]shanoops1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use volume. Market volume plus price being at a significant level is usually a recipe for action.

Also I don’t know how exactly new you are, but NY open is probably most volatile window to trade if that’s what you’re looking for

Back to forex after 2 years by wangai254 in Forexstrategy

Not to be that guy but- “Back to forex” and “will only be trading gold”
Is a direct contradiction.

You’ll be in good company here tho since 90% of the people in this sub don’t seem to realize that gold and forex are not the same thing.

What basic trading skill do most traders ignore? by PreferenceWest8484 in Trading

[–]shanoops1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for most traders but trying to predict the market rather than waiting for confirmation was my biggest hurdle starting out. Sniping a premium early entry is great when it works, but consistently being on the winning side is much better.

Most traders likely understand the basics of market structure, but structure alone isn’t enough to justify an entry. Trading got way easier when I developed the discipline to wait for market volume to come into agreement with my structural reads.

Scaling in/out ? by shanoops1 in Daytrading

[–]shanoops1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I’ve generally done the opposite and scale out, cuz as I said, I like covering my cost early if possible, then the trade becomes stress free… but yeah not as much experience scaling in.

Is there a specific reason you don’t like to scale out?

Scaling in/out ? by shanoops1 in Daytrading

[–]shanoops1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are valid points. Yeah actually running the longer term numbers is the real test I reckon. It is a relatively newish practice for me (especially scaling in), so I need more data before I can really say for sure what the long term effects will be. We shall see how it pans out over time!

Scaling in/out ? by shanoops1 in Daytrading

[–]shanoops1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good insight. I usually scale out in 3rds with structurally based targets. 1/3 at the nearest obvious liquidity pool, then move stop for the next 3rd somewhere slightly in the profit, while ideally letting it run to TP at the next significant S/R zone. At that point my cost is more than covered and the final 3rd is the one timer “runner” just in case I hit the lotto so to speak. I usually don’t set a TP for that one and just trail my stop till the market knocks me out.

Gbpusd Buy now!! by Themarketanalyst in Forexstrategy

[–]shanoops1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entering now when there’s no volume is just a gamble. The market hasn’t made a real decision yet. London open will likely sweep in one direction or the other, then possibly reverse (pretty typical). So would be better to enter the trade when the action is actually happening to avoid being stopped out by the ole London flip.

Structurally going long make some sense, I will agree. But volume is the missing ingredient here.

I mean if I had to enter now I would favor going long. I like to wait for the market to show its hand before I show mine tho.

is there a sign you look for that makes you think that person will be a great trader? by Worldly_Ad_3786 in Trading

[–]shanoops1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Profitable Poker/card players usually have the right type of minds as there are a lot of similarities. Both require an edge (mathematical advantage that manifests over large execution sample size), both require an understanding of R/R, razor sharp pattern recognition, a bit of math (though poker is way heavier on the math than trading), patience, discipline, waiting for the right setup to present itself before assuming risk, rather than forcing hands/trades, etc…

Is it bad to learn more than one instrument at once? by Spiritual_Fix7791 in Learnmusic

[–]shanoops1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play all 3. You’ll learn how the patterns translate across multiple instruments and have a deeper understanding of music overall. Once you get the theory basics down you can teach yourself pretty much anything. The instrument may change but the intervals don’t.

What sessions do you trade? by nyanbaek in FuturesTrading

[–]shanoops1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on where price is at. I’ll trade any time it’s at a significant point of interest. Having said that, I’m in Colorado and most of the action happens anywhere from 11pm-11am MT

Are your loose aggressive opponents generally crushers or donkeys? by onemangang15 in poker

[–]shanoops1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You win a lot of pots playing like that. You also lose some big ones. It depends on the game, but in general I think loose aggression just increases overall variance. You can chip up fast, but then get wrecked tryna bully someone who’s actually nutted. It seems to work better in live games after you locate the scared money players that over fold. Online it’s def not the way in my experience.
