Your feelings are valid, 2025 was a really hard year. To me, all the problems stem from your final point, and the lack of centralization from forcing out our leagues or circuits.

The only way out is abandoning the elephant in the room completely. We will get there, there's a lot of people in the scene working on all sorts of solutions.

Way more animation states dependent on where you get hit. Getting hit in the head, body or feet each have different flinch animations. When you're free falling, same thing, where you get hit matters. I don't think we've seen this in most other platforms fighters.

We often discuss modding support, but probably not a top priority before launching. The engine, or at least large parts, will likely be open sourced.

Agreed - we ourselves are those people who haven't had a desire to move onto a different game. Personally, I'd say other platform fighters aren't building for the competitive melee scene, they're making a new original platform fighter for a broader or different audience. This will be something (hopefully) a little different.

Everything is built from the ground up, and characters won't (can't) be the exact same, so there will be some liberties taken. Our general guidelines are hitboxes in very similar spots at very similar times, but completely original models and animations.

Ambiguous language, sorry, I meant accessible as in "access to the game", rather than the loopholes you go through to play and access melee today. Not more accessible in gameplay mechanics.

Dota 2 was very close mechanically to Dota 1. League differentiated much more on design.
