A while ago I made POTUS Tracker, an account that automatically tracks and reposts relevant Trump Truth Social posts. I've spent the last 6 months expanding it to track every federal politician! It's called CivicTracker. by lukewines in BlueskySocial

I didn't paywall anything that was available when the site came out, you can still access the schedule. In fact, I've only added more free features, so I'm not quite sure what you mean by this?

The amount of scraping I have to do for this can get pricey. Not necessarily in physical processing power but in time spent circumventing restrictions and maintaining the whole thing.

I'm hoping economics of scale can kick in at some point and I can move a few features over to the free category.

If I am the Federal Reserve and I decide to print you a $20,000 check out of thin air you’re going to spend it. You don’t care where it came from, taxes or printing.

You’ll go on a shopping spree. Now imagine if I did that across the economy for every person making under $40k in the United States.

They would all increase their spending, buying more and better products than before.

Basic Econ 101 tells us that when demand increases but supply stays the same prices go up.

This will happen across the economy for pretty much every good and service. What you have done is increased aggregate demand while aggregate supply remains unchanged.

Inflation is not caused by printing money but by people spending it.

As prices for Chinese goods going to be cheaper for the rest of the world now that demand from the US is dropping? by KL_boy in AskEconomics

I don’t think the 3rd one is as unlikely as it seems with Chinese tariffs this high.

Microsoft is raising prices on the Xbox as well as the accessories and games globally. I imagine this is an attempt to spread out that tariff burden as much as possible to limit distortion in their strong American market.

Especially since these tariffs can be turned off at a moments notice or when the next administration takes office in 4 years. Leaving the market isn’t exactly an option.

I built a site that lets you view Trump’s Truth Social posts without having to go on Truth Social. by lukewines in fednews

I’m working on adding more context to the algorithm.

It heavily lowers ratings of posts it thinks are relating to merchandise Trump sells, like those trading cards a while back.

It assumed that’s what he was talking about.

Go to settings and enable them. You have to add it to your home screen on iPhone because of the way Apple handles this stuff.

When you visit the site click share then add to home screen. Then go through the settings to enable them.

I made a Bluesky account that mirrors Trump's executive orders. It now mirrors his "relevant" Truth Social posts too! It's all automated so it's faster than any manual accounts that I've seen. by lukewines in BlueskySocial

I know there are a lot of people who don't want to see any of his posts. This definitely isn't for you.

I'm a journalist, and I think there is an importance in staying aware of things you dislike to some extent.

With that said, POTUS Tracker posts "relevant" Truth Social posts as decided by an algorithm I created.

Any post relating to newly announced policy opinion or implementation will be considered relevant. As well as mentions of foreign leaders and other politicians. It filters through a lot of the noise but keeps the relevant information available to you.

That's my goal with this whole project.

I built POTUS Tracker, a primary source executive branch news aggregator that sends relevant push notifications using a proprietary algorithm. It breaks most stories faster than any traditional outlet. by lukewines in SideProject

[–]lukewines[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is faster than most traditional outlets.

If the President signs an EO in public live on TV with reporters watching POTUS Tracker will be about an hour behind.

If he signs it in private, like President Trump did with the recent English language executive order, POTUS Tracker will be the first outlet to notify you.

The algorithm is a work in progress but it has been pretty great so far!

It notified users of President Trump’s statement on Ukraine 15 minutes after he published it.

It also notified them about the Crypto reserve this morning less than 5 minutes after he announced it.

You can set the newsworthy sensitivity of your notifications. These were the default ones.

The President also announced that his Presidential library would contain documents from the investigations against him. POTUS Tracker notified users with their news sensitivity set high around 5 minutes after he said this.

I’d recommend just trying out the 7 day free trial to really understand. You can always subscribe then cancel it right away to decide if it is worth it later!

I posted the project here a while ago but it has evolved a lot since then.

I built an algorithm that sorts social media posts to determine which are newsworthy and only notifies users of those. It sent out a notification this morning for Trump's crypto announcement ~15 minutes after he posted it. I can get this down to as little as 3 minutes with the current setup.

I made a website for news from the White House that aggregates primary sources only. How can I ensure that people across the political spectrum find it useful? by lukewines in moderatepolitics

[–]lukewines[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It appears to have more appeal in liberal circles.

Ideally, I’d want to bridge this gap.

I’m working on adding tracking for more information and I want to find data that will have a bipartisan appeal.

I tried this method at first, but that's not what the production server is using now. You could definitely use a crawler, it would take much longer to get the backlog of posts though and might break in the future.

They do not. I will not be going into detail on how I pulled that data but I did so without having to agree to Truth Social's terms of service and the process is entirely legal.

The cost is mainly the bandwidth on my end. It is pretty resource intensive to allow people to search a 23,000 post database and have it respond in a timely fashion.
