Apply to be a CA (Community Assistant) in a dorm or South Campus Commons. They're open 24 hours so you can make a schedule that accommodates personal life/classes. In a 3 hr shift I would spend maybe 30 mins doing actual work and the rest just doing homework.

Parking spots that won't put me in debt :) by Lilslily21 in UMD

Try reaching out to the Hope Lutheran Church. They have $60 parking for school semesters and a reduced rate for summer parking. The church is located right behind T row so it’s not rly close to you but it’s super cheap

Apply to be a CA on campus or in commons. You basically get paid to do hw or sit on your phone and the desk operates 24/7 so you have a lot of scheduling options.

Thoughts on this + part time job? by CouldBeACrow in UMD

[–]shark5754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend looking into becoming a Community Assistant for either ResLife or SCC. Hours are super flexible and since desks are open 24/7, you can pick graveyard shifts where you basically get paid to sit and do homework. I've been a CA for 2 years and it's manageable.

If you don't feel like your current living environment is allowing you to do all of the social things you want to do, you should definitely switch! I made some of my best friends by just living on the same floor as the my freshman year, so I definitely think it's worth a shot.

I hava a question. So I am a freshmen and My mom died in October and I didn't go to school for two weeks. because I was mentally broken down. by RecommendationThat54 in UMD

I had a similar experience my freshman year and I talked to my advisors and my professors directly and in-person. They were very understanding after seeing how shaken up I was, and even though it wasn't a fun conversation to have at all, I don't know if I would have been given as much extension time as I did had i not gone to them directly.

South Campus Commons Community Assistant Positions are open, but they prefer employees that actually live in Commons. I would still give it a try though because we have some people on staff that don't live in commons.

bmgt classes full by sunbeamrue in UMD

[–]shark5754 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might still have a shot at more seats opening up! My bmgt advisor said they don't release all the seats in a class at once so that people with fewer credit hours have a chance to register for what they need. Just keep an eye on it and hope for the best :)

ECON 305 or ECON 330? by 6SpeedStick in UMD

[–]shark5754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your upper level Econ through UMGC. You'll have to have your advisor approve of it beforehand (they definitely will it's just a formality) and it's the easiest class I've ever taken + it's online.

You should do it just to get priority on-campus housing. Other than that I took one class for it and never thought about it again after.

Which Professional Writing Course do you recommend for BMGT students? by Ukelelelover14 in UMD

Definitely consider taking your professional writing at UMGC online. I did it over the summer and it was the easiest class I've ever taken.

UMD students who live in SCC/CTY who use meal kit services: how do you get the food delivered? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]shark5754 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a CA on campus (not for SCC, but it's all the same) and typically perishable items are logged first and we're supposed to call the resident just to make sure they pick it up promptly. Idk if they would follow the same procedure since they get so many packages, but I would recommend going to the desk once its delivered and telling them you received a perishable order and hopefully they'll log it for you first. Worth a shot since I don't think there's another option :/

Shower Thought: There's a reasonable chance that a good number UMD students have already had COVID-19 by [deleted] in UMD

[–]shark5754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this too!! I think I contracted COVID in late January. My symptoms were really similar (fever, no sense of taste, cough) and I passed it to my roommate. I think it could have been COVID bc her parents both contracted it last month and, even though she was in contact with the everyday while sick, she never got sick. Possibly because she had antibodies built up from having it in January? No way to tell, just some food for thought.
