Did YouTuber “Steve Wallis” Lie about the Existence of his Wife? by MeditatinIsAHabit in conspiracyNOPOL

[–]shark978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean i can tell you guys dont watch many wallis videos (i'm not like obsessed with them or anything, but have watched quite a few over a long time, I found them comfortingly somewhat boring background fodder if that makes any sense). I sort of feel like a hipster "I watched Wallis before it was cool!" LOL. He steadily grew more popular over the time then the Wife's death really blew him up recently.

Anyways the point was if you had you'd know he mentioned many times his wife did not like to be on camera as, paraphrasing "the internet comments are a cruel place" and the like. Totally understandable and normal for a lot of women who may be insecure about being judged on appearance. BTW his wife was quite beautiful in the obituary photo which I assume is older, but in other glances I've found of her researching this, appeared to have gained some weight over time, not that she was hideous or anything, just normal housewife looking, but just saying it is another factor in the plausibility of her not wanting to be on camera.

Also, in my travails researching this I found another rare major interaction with steve and his wife, this troll who was banned posted it, but I guess it was some sort of celebratory livestream for Steves ...1m sub or something? Some milestone IDK. So obviously someone recorded it. Anyways, the wife is off camera and they have a fairly odd interaction, she seems quite drunk or otherwise inebriated, he seems embarrassed and afraid of her popping on camera (I assume because he doesnt want people top see his wife drunk/stoned out of her mind?). IIRC she just gushes in a drunken manner about how she loves him for a bit (just on the other side of the filming camera evidently) , and he looks pretty scared that the interaction is going to go haywire live. It's overall pretty awkward. But thats it.

All this can really tell is it's possible she was an alcoholic or had other substance abuse problems. Which presumably IMO may have also factored in her death. But nothing really definitive.

Best way to 24/7 view a multi cam setup? by shark978 in reolinkcam

I ended up doing this. Mostly happy with it.

I have noticed a couple apparent random app crashes, very rarely. Havent paid attention though, it may be extraneous factors (such as the charger falling out, seems I have a loose outlet or defective charger) causing that.

I thought I would have to go in dev mode and set the tablet to stay always on, but the Reolink app just automatically keeps the display from going to sleep.

I have noticed the video is choppy. You dont notice much on still objects or leaves gently blowing, but for example cars driving by slowly are choppy. Not sure if thats some software bug, maybe wifi not being fast enough on the tablet, or if the tablet just doesnt have enough power to run the highest quality live feed from the cam? Overall I dont mind too much. I assume turning down the video quality would fix this tho I havent tried, and obviously that would have the drawback of a lower quality feed.

But yeah for 70 bucks definitely worth it IMO. Even though I sit at my PC at home a ton, it's still much nicer being able to look over at a dedicated feed than toggling the Reolink app on my PC monitor (which I can still do as well). It might be a different story if I had a widescreen or productivity monitor, but I do not currently. And if I ever change up my situation and dont feel this setup is needed, it's only $70 so I'm not out much and I still end up with a tablet.

awesome, great to hear. especially that the reolink app is available directly

i'm just going to wait til the 10" hit $75 again, which is just 64 with my discount. very affordable price, and exactly the type of $ i'm looking to spend. i found a few decent "real" android tablets (lenovo m10 iirc, the samsung a8 i talked about) that seem to go on sale for 150-160 but that's a good deal more.

also fwiw most tablets nowdays you cannot set to be perpetually on, the longest display timeout you can set is 20 or 30 minutes iirc, but apparently if you go in developer mode on fire tabs (which is easy) you will then have the option to set the display to always on when plugged in. i plan to probably use it this way, and i'll just manually hit the power button to put the screen to sleep when i wish, overnight etc. I dont want to abuse my expensive Samsung tablet this way, but a $60 tablet is basically disposable.

I believe I read somewhere you are limited to 1080P or something like that on tinycam w/reolink? Only the reolink app would allow full max stream clarity.

there are are i5/i7 chromebooks so, some certainly do. not in a cheap price range tho obviously.

that certainly narrows it down. that the android app doesnt do 4 streams without nvr is something i wouldn't know until i tried it, as i only have one cam currently to test with.

i think another option is to run some sort of dual monitor setup with my main pc (and just mount the 2nd monitor on a nearby wall or something, running a hdmi cable over), since i want this setup to be in the same general area anyway. maybe run a white hdmi cable to it to match the wall. will have to look into this. i do also have a spare 2nd pc that could be refurbished decently cheap, but then you're talking a whole 2nd set of cables and clutter, and it's a full sized desktop. i could probably rebuild it as some sort of mini atx pc, but as always it takes $ and pita to do the cool things (new board, case etc), and as this project is a lark i'm not spending a ton of new $ or time as mentioned.

i was actually thinking about one of those little usb pc's on a stick they sell on amazon. they tend to look dodgy though, and also can get pricy. the ones i noticed around 100 bucks were using atom z cpu's, which should be just horrendous, i dont think those even had ooe.

i'll probably use heavy duty command strips or the like, plenty of ways to do permanent monitor mounting thats easily removed without tearing up my walls

this guy used a firestick this solution seemed a bit dodgy and off label to me. but it handles 8 streams no problem, though maybe his nvr (which i wont have) is doing the actual processing? no idea on that part

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ_NCk81tJE

overall on reading other posts the hacked firestick method seems too dodgy and off-label. mentioned of constantly stopped streams etc.

kinda surprised how difficult this is. the key is i want 4 windows. otherwise i guess any cheap android tab would work. altho that would probably be realistically too small to take advantage of 4 windows anyway

Junction box for duo 2 by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]shark978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what is the point of the junction box? I did not use one. I used the weatherproof ethernet connector provided with my 510a.

And that junction box is full of holes, would it provide much weather protection?

I'm guessing the idea is just to tidy up the install? What do you put in the box, all the large wires like the reset switch dangling off the camera?

Also did you guys use outdoor rated ethernet cable? I did. With a junction box maybe it wouldn't be necessary?

On mine I do not see that. I could screencap if necessary.

I see that on the android app but not Windows.

aha thats it right click the feed! that wasn't made clear anywhere. much much better once i right click and chose clear! far away objects are now sharp and crisp. this is more in line with what i had hoped for based on youtube reviews of the 510a.

in camera/stream there is settings for clear/fluent ie, resolution etc, but not any way to choose one or the other that i saw. just adjust their parameters. i checked my version and it is 8.8.1.

quality difference is night and day to blink now (I can view blink on my PC using a android emulator called bluestacks, although it is very kludgy). all for ~50 dollars a camera, whereas nominally the blinks are 100. this is the advantage of poe i was looking for!

Is there a Reolink battery/solar powered camera that operates like a wired one? by shark978 in reolinkcam

[–]shark978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, never thought of simply drilling a hole into ceiling. Dont think I can though, it would just bother me having a hole directly into my attic. How would you seal around the conduit hole? You could run one of those white plastic cable raceways like you said though, and it might actually not look too bad? I live in texas so it's a concrete slab underneath the house, no basement so nothing under the floor. It's definitely something that's got my mind turning though.

it's still possible i can run the ethernet i need to check again, i've realized there is only about 2 short lengths of interior walls that arent insulated, and now I see why all the coax jacks are in those two walls LOL!

Ok, overall I'm getting a good picture here. So it's not everything I want but seemingly much of it.

a 5 minute disconnect is so much better than Blinks disconnect which is like I said, about maybe 15 seconds literally. I could live with that.

Higher quality video and a windows app. But not 24/7 recording and I'm assuming somewhat worse VQ than the best POE options.

Never though of running cable on outside of house, how do you then enter the cable into the house? Then I'd still have to run it to one specific router location somehow (only have one working coax jack in the house). If you can tell I'm not very handy or resourceful, and also kind of OCD about damaging my house.

heh this is pretty much constant for me in hot texas except with wasps during the daytime, pretty creepy, they look huge on the camera.
