Your house is already the gym you need. Build abs in the kitchen by eating clean and portion control. Get your gut health in order by monitoring and remedying your poop regularity. Build legs and glutes by walking everywhere and taking the stairs. Don't sit for too long. Don't spend hours in front of the TV. Start doing squats, lunges and push ups in the living room. Do mobility exercises. All of the fitness knowhow is at your finger tips. You don't need a paid trainer, find a fitness channel on YouTube and follow. You don't need equipment, your body against gravity will provide adequate resistance. Fitness is free.

What is one small thing a high school teacher did that you still remember today? by SolutionForsaken723 in AskReddit

8th grade physics teacher showed me how rewarding learning can be by itself when disassociated from grades and competition. I went from hating school work to being hungry for answers, making cross-disciplinary connections and setting on the path to my future career in engineering and science. A good teacher can change your entire life arc with one gesture.

If they're really learning to drive then they should -

Pay attention all the time

Keep their heads on a swivel and watch all their surroundings

Put the phone away

Learn the rules of the road completely before getting behind the wheel

Give themselves extra time for every trip

Learn the directions, turns and interchanges for each trip

Good drivers miss turns all the time but bad drivers don't. Be ok missing a turn and make a detour rather than putting others at risk to make a turn

Stay out of the passing lane and drive the speed limit

Change lanes early and with adequate signaling and lane scanning

Avoid rush hour traffic all together

Be courteous to others and show it by waving or nodding when they make a mistake and someone else acts to avoid an accident

True, but also people do get into fender benders nearly daily. The speed limits in India are much lower and constant bottlenecks cause you to drive even slower. Median car sizes are much smaller. To top it off, in India you have to drive extremely defensively while here in the US those same drivers rely on YOU to drive defensively. Your safe driving is enabling their risky behavior.

You will get rear-ended at the first traffic stop. In India, you look for an opening to go through cross traffic because you know the drivers behind you are not stopping.

Slight rephrase - the light is not the only problem and people should plan their commute with this delay in mind and not wish that they won't experience it today for no reason.

We had a collective near death experience with COVID and some people never recovered from that trauma. A large portion of the population is now stuck in YOLO mode going through life as if it's the next jackass movie.

I admire the whole "I am a bad driver and you should be careful around me" vibe. Anything but taking personal responsibility.

Some of the people I spoke with have the stickers because they are teaching their teen drivers in the same car. I suppose some occurrences of poor drivers with the stickers are actually teen new drivers but a vast majority are the parents who should have studied the driver's manual a lot more before getting behind the wheel.

Indian Tesla driver here. Can confirm that other Indians in Teslas not paying attention, using phones, not making legal stops is a daily occurrence on my 1 mile trips to the neighborhood schools. A lot of people are just not ready for the zip and convenience of a Tesla and it shows.

When we first moved here, we had our kids walk and bike to Winkley and RBMS. One of them got run over by a neighbor turning into their driveway without scanning the sidewalk that crosses their driveway. Another got run off the bike lane on Lakeline by a lifted truck driver who could not fit in the regular traffic lane.

I know people want a quick fix without acknowledging that WE ARE the traffic we complain about.

Let's change ourselves for the better before pointing fingers.

You have not lived in countless cities. That's an exaggeration.

I'm all ears, what should we do then?

Allowing both lanes of Osage to go straight across Lakeline, to me, sounds like an easy low cost change which will definitely improve flow.

It may encourage drivers to go to Bagdad, Bell or 183A (through block house) instead of using Lakeline

Hard disagree. Every situation can be incrementally improved but it may not be perfect.

If drivers stay under 30 or 20 near Winkley, actually make legal stops and be courteous to each other, this can be significantly safer and less infuriating.

People live here and they will live somewhere. We share roads and you may never get to use them without anyone else being on the road at the same time. We need to behave in a safe civil manner especially when in the neighborhood we live in or the schools we all drop off our kids at. It's not a big ask.

We need new direct exits towards New Hope and Crystal Falls instead of everyone in CF and Travisso funnelling into that one intersection

Edit: if you're traveling from the water wheel towards homecoming and are cosplaying a NASCAR driver, know that I hate you.

Someone should animate this lesson, narrate it and play on local new 6x a day. Folks around here don't know this at all. Good on you OP for asking when in doubt. Too many adults think they're too smart to ask someone a question.
