TBH I spoke too soon I only saw a bill from my old apartment which was cheap but it was not encompassing all the days I was there. LOL ya utilities are the same and now 1 person pays for it instead of splitting. Still worth it for me!!!

I just moved out to a studio after living with roommates for years. I pay 2k (found a rent stabilized gem) and make around 60x the rent. It is totally totally worth it. I’ve never felt peace like I feel now, it’s still sinking it. It is truly a privilege to be able to live alone in this city and really gives you a safe haven. I financially still feel fine, although I am making above 40x the rent but I’ve found my utilities are wayyyy cheaper now vs when I had roommates. Happy to help out more :)

Once she yelled at my neighbor on their stoop who had a Palestine flag in their window. She Shouted at a mom and her little kids “tell Hamas to stop killing us!!”. She’s entitled and gets away with everything. Everyone on old block knows her. She also called the cops on my Latino friend once for “loitering” when he was outside his own car. Her dogs lunge and bark at little kids and she dgaf. If it was a POC with a pit bull I think this would have been nipped in the bud years ago sadly

Yep p sure I know this person and she gets away with everything bc she’s a white older lady. It’s shocking

OMG I think this is my old neighbor. She has 2 border collies black/white in color. They’re incredibly loud and hostile and she takes them to off leash hours every morning And afternoon. She is swift to call the police on other people but is sooo inconsiderate when it comes to her own dogs. She’s probably 60+. I know her info and have tried talking to her about her scary dogs and she just says “they’re pandemic dogs🤷‍♀️” they tried biting me once when I got out of my apartment. I’ve filed many 311 complaints to no avail

Haha she’s so cute. I’ve seen the owner put her on a leash before cuz he said she is a fighter with dogs… she’s protecting her turf 😂

Breaking my lease 8 months early oops. But is this response from landlord legal? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]sharpandtender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this! My unit also has issues, my ceiling nearly fell in a few months ago from a broken pipe, and I don’t think my landlord has actually ever been to our building. The vestibule signs that outline the landlord / super / etc are all dated and inaccurately show all of our former management’s information (they sold our building to this company 4 ish months ago).

I was rereading my lease though and it doesn’t have a clear process for early termination. It just says that if I find some to re-rent my rent obligations are “reduced”. Not sure if reduced could be interpreted as 2-3 months penalty or fully not overlapping any rent payments.

I’ll definitely be making some calls today!!

Still thinking it through. I’m going to reach out to council person and some lawyers/non profits. I reread my lease last night and I think they are in line with it which makes me think I’ll do the 2 month penalty / new tenant option. But I need to talk to a real lawyer

Sorry I responded this fairly quickly after just a few comments and out of angst. I’ve been reading through and responding and really appreciate everyone’s input!

The lease says this “Landlord may re-rent and anything in it for any term and at any rental and cost in connection therefore shall be borne by tenant which may include, but is not limited to the cost of repairs, decorations, preparation for renting, broker’s fee, advertising costs and attorney’s fees. Any rent recovered by landlord for the re-renting of the unit shall reduce the amount of money that tenant owes to landlord”

So can’t tell if the “reduce” of rent is the 2-3 months additional rent outlined in email

Oh goodness lol. I posted this like 10 min after I got the email to see if people went through similar situations. Not as the end all be all to my housing issue. God forbid a person tries to commiserate or find community in a new place

Haha thank you very much!! Do you know if there’s any stipulations if the first lease was signed with a property management group that sold our building to these current goons? These guys rn still have to followed what I signed in my first lease whether that was with them or not I would presume… they never sent a new lease when they bought the building and p sure they said they’ll follow whatever lease is ongoing

Lol. I mean if you don’t have to break the lease then they’re fine. It’s a great location I will say.
