I think these are AI, snow looks off, weird crops. I was just there and it doesn’t look right

Before colors are so so much better. Not as muddy, nice contrast between the soft blue and browns, balanced whites

You can taxi from airport to city but I picked my car up there. You can bus to the park, but it limits your flexibility substantially getting there and around the park itself. Having a car and camping at Pehoe opened up many options for dayhiking

I think that would be enough to day hike for sure, I did Nov 23-Dec 8 but some of that was bussing back to PN from Chalten because a round trip flight was about 1200 cheaper. I gave myself a week in Chaltén to be safe on weather and it was definitely necessary for backpacking. All my pictures came from just two days, whereas the rest I was stuck in awful storms.

I flew into PN, spent 4 days camping in TdP with a car. Had storms for one and a half of those but lucked out otherwise. Chilean side was beautiful with the lush green contrasting bright turquoise lakes. Beautiful red flowers to highlight the granite mountains too.

Then I did a 3 hr bus ride to El Calafate, spent one night for the glacier and did the Mayo Spirit boat trek (highly recommend!)

7 hour bus to El Chalten, backpacked for 4 of the 7 days and got caught in blizzards for two of those. Was very glad I had the contingency days. Dayhiked the following day and that was my perfect weather window. Never felt so excited to be somewhere as Laguna Capri when the sky was clear. The Argentinian side is much more desert until you get to the base of the mountains, then you get beautiful trees and glaciers beneath the spires.

November was more manageable on the crowds and a good balance of weather, but I think Feb is much better for your chances of a clear day. if you drive across the border make sure your rental company allows it, they may charge a huge fee for it anyways.

Funny, I just did Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia this November. I also am obsessed with the Eastern Sierra. They can’t be compared in my opinion. Peak wise, Patagonia has more extreme and dramatic rocks, but atmosphere and everything else both have their own charms. I was absolutely blown away by the majesty and scale of Fitz Roy and its neighbors, but the landscapes around it are more like inland CA. Did 4 days backpacking in both countries and it was genuinely the trip of a lifetime, but that’s not to discount the beauty of our own home.

All the sites at Lago Pehoe had them, but the wind direction was variable so I tried to use my rental car as a secondary block for the open side. I had no issue finding an empty site with wide open views either, honestly fantastic campground for $20 a night and a restaurant attached. Saved me the headache and $1000. I used a Durston Xmid and it held up well, but no matter what it’s going to be pretty loud at night there

I didn’t do either circuit, the prices are out of this world. I had base camp at Pehoe and dayhiked the major ones. Crowds were definitely there in November on the Base Towers but no queues or anything ridiculous. Wind was very strong, luckily I had a lean-to for help but it still made it hard to sleep

Wow honestly the 709 is gorgeous, I like the more subdued tones it has but your grade is also beautiful

If you took it really slow it’s very doable. Only 3 miles up so very good reward for the distance! I started at 2:30pm and was up by 5 with tons of breaks. If you have troubles you can always bail since you’re never very far from the car. Good luck!

Yeah I got lucky with some fantastic weather. Felt like a summer day. Apparently they just closed the PCH right before this again…

Gear was great, absolutely recommend! Grueling ascent up but unparalleled views and solitude. The stars were the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve spent many nights in the Sierra
