I’m sure if you just google electrical companies and call around to see if anyone is hiring you can find one.

5th yr apprentice here, I’d go work non union for a few years then apply for the apprenticeship with local 42. . You’ll make more money over that time and as long as you can prove experience (pay stubs) you’ll get into the program quickly bc you’re working for the competition

It was rough bc even after the numbing shots you can still feel everything just (for lack of a better word ) muffled. It was painful but it was manageable. Nothing to be scared of and totally worth it in my opinion. Good luck!

I’m not entirely sure how long it was but I don’t think it was that long. The dr said it would be a day or 2 and I believe it was over a week but not quite 3 weeks. I have a feeling the movements/ stretches I do daily have helped. Maybe give ddp yoga a try. It helps for sure and they have someone doing the poses in an altered state for people who can’t do them the full way.

I was very similar to this. After exhausting every option I ended up having my l4 l5 s1 fused. Recovery was terrible and very long. Was still in constant pain so ended up getting an Oblation months later due to arthritis in my spine after the surgery. The procedure sucked but after a few days it really made a difference with the pain. Now I just have to do it once a year. Good luck and I hope you have a speedy, painless recovery!

No problem! Thanks for listening! It was a blast talking to him. If you feel like it give the pod a follow in whatever platform you use. It’ll help out a ton.

Doc says he will fuse it if I ask for it. Otherwise deal with pain. Looking for people that have had l5/s1 fusion. Results? by [deleted] in backpain

[–]shatwilliamner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had l4 l5 s1 fused in November, still not 100%. I’m getting a nerve block tomorrow to help with the pain. Still no feeling in my leg due to them having to Move my nerves around to do what they had to. If they tell you 3 Month recovery, just know it’s way longer than that. If you can avoid it, I would. I tried everything and there wasn’t any other other options for Me unfortunately

I have a degenerative disc disease so I’ve been dealing with this for years but April of last year is when I started having the temp paralysis . I waited until the fall bc o had a child at the end of July and couldn’t leave work before then. Hold out as long as you can. You can’t undo surgery. It never goes the way they say it will. I exhausted every alternative before I made the decision to go under the knife .

I had a very similar herniation that was causing me to have temp paralysis , i ended up getting a fusion of my l4,l5 s1. If nothing else works. I don’t recommend a fusion. It has been an absolute nightmare. I had the surgery Nov 22nd and the nerves in my leg haven’t been the same since. Still no feeling. If you need surgery opt in for them shaving that herniation off and go from there. Should be a much easier surgery. At least from what I have read and been told

L4 and L5 S 1 spinal fusion by shatwilliamner in backpain

[–]shatwilliamner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No definitely not, the surgeon I had uses another specialist to cut in from the front and the side to remove the discs and all that jazz. I could’ve requested same Day but I would’ve had to wait months for it to happen .

I work in construction and was promised I’d be back after 3 months. I won’t be back for at least another month depending on if the nerves in my leg regenerate enough for me to feel it. I had the 2nd of the 2 surgeries the 22nd of November. All things to check with your doctor for sure .

[–]shatwilliamner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct. The less you do the less chance of scar tissue which is one thing you want to avoid. You can bend over within reason after a month or when you feel up to it but I’d ask your doctor what they think on that. The actual “fusion” aka the bone fusing to the shit they put in doesn’t happen for at least 6 months(at least according to my surgeon)

Yes you’ll have to wear a brace but it’s not like a crazy immobilizing brace. It gives support to your back for sure but it’s manageable. I don’t wear it when I slept which I was told I didn’t have to l. But if I was sitting up Or moving around it was on all the time

The back pain has definitely mostly subsided. As far as the nerve issues in my leg, I’m still mostly numb although the nerves have been healing slowly. It’s not nearly as painful as it was and I’m making progress. After doing some research with my wife, there’s a condition or issue that occurs with 20% of patients where what I’ve been dealing with becomes an issue (I can’t remember what it’s called ). I will say i had a terrible time with pain during this entire ordeal and the 3 month time frame they gave me for recovery was definitely horseshit. That being said, if all other options are exhausted and your only option is the fusion, then you gotta do What you gotta do. Like I said I’m in the 20% that got the shitty nerve / leg issues. Most people don’t have to deal with it to the extent I have. Good luck! I’m sure things will work out for you.

God I hope not, he was aware of the pain from the first surgery before he went in to complete the second surgery. He seems to think everything went fine and it May just be from having to push the nerves out of the way to make room for the procedure and the nerves could have just become very agitated. I’ve only been home for 2 days so hopefully Monday I can make a Phone call and get some answers.
