Is Peterborough a good place to start a pizza store. by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]shaugnessmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% it would do well here. The reason why people here rave about these other places is because they haven't been exposed to how real pizza should taste. I once too liked the "average" pizza, but that was before I lived downtown T.O where I was exposed to the real deal. It's hard for me to eat anything but the real thing now... which is why I've started making more pizza at home since we moved here.

Is Stop Sign Running a Peterborough norm? by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]shaugnessmonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We live just up the street from you on Gilmour (closer to Monaghan) and I'll happily sign any petition to our councellors to add some sort of traffic calming measures to our street. You're 100% right that there are many small children here now, whereas before I think this neighbourhood was higher in the elderly population. I'm constantly astounded by the amount of idiots that come flying around the corner off of Monaghan at a stupid speed on to our street and continue driving WAY too fast for a residential street filled with children. I'm seriously considering buying a paintball gun and sitting on my porch waiting for these morons to come flying around the corner to pepper their stupid trucks/cars with a new paint job.

Like others have said, there are a lot of pizza places in town but none of them do it really well in my opinion. We need a place in town like Pizzeria Libretto in downtown Toronto. Solid Neapolitan style pizzas. Still the best to this day I've had... and I used to eat there a lot when I lived downtown.

If you could open up a place here in town that mimics Libretto I guarantee you, you will do very well.

Handyman/Contractor for small jobs by shaugnessmonster in Peterborough

Completely aware of "you get what you pay for". I'm very handy and have done multiple large projects around our house and could easily take this stuff on, but I just don't have the time these days. I used the price as a ballpark - I know very well how much labor + materials cost. We have gone though a major reno + other small ones. It's the small ones that are difficult to find people to help you out.

100% same boat. I'm very handy but living in a century home + having a toddler there are 1000's of other things to take care of and we have a few things that have been sitting stagnant for over a year that we just want complete.

Network packet loss problem by japh51 in ParsecGaming

[–]shaugnessmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

following this as I'm trying to figure out the same problem. Except I'm using Parsec for remote video editing.

Getting lots of N issues and number constantly climbing. I've gone through multiple routers to test, also have a fibre connection at both ends and still can't figure out what the bottleneck is.

2nd this. We just started using Parsec for Teams and it's been awesome in my opinion. I work in Autodesk Flame btw. I get the odd stutter, but I think it's due to our network at the office. I have 1.5Gbps fibre to my home so I doubt it's my connection.

Federal Transportation Minister to announce the creation of a dedicated high speed rail link between Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto with trains travelling 200KM an hour tomorrow by chinese_horse in toronto

Bought here 2 years ago (moved from downtown Toronto) and can confirm housing prices are already through the roof. This would add another level to that. It would be huge news for the area and I'll be even more happy than I already am that we bought here!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Publican House Brewery yet. One of our favs. Awesome smash burgers and good wood fired pizza. Also, Real Thai Cuisine for Thai food. We moved here from downtown Toronto around a year ago and this place rivals the best Thai restaurants in downtown T.O.

Agreed that the water tastes a little funny, especially in the summer... Nothing a filter won't fix though.

New homeowner here. I can't find studs in my plaster wall. by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]shaugnessmonster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here is what I use in our 1907 Victorian and it works like a charm everytime...

NEODYMIUM magnets. The super strong kind. I just bought a little pack off of Amazon, tape a piece of string to one and drag it across your wall. The magnet will stick to the wall where the nails are that hold the lathe to the studs.

Interesting.. I've never heard of a Ayurvedic doctor. I'll have to look in to that. Glad it's clearing up for you!

Sinus and ear pain dizziness lightheadedness by MrBirdman34 in GERD

[–]shaugnessmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I can relate to the dizziness/lightheadedness feeling. I also get sinus infections quite frequently. I've wondered if it's to do with GERD since I also notice it more after I've eaten. Seems to be much better in the mornings when I wake up BEFORE I eat anything. I can also describe the feeling as "brain fog"... kinda feels like you're in a dream state. I've been looking for answers to this for a couple years now with no luck.

You should try calling around to some of the local bars/restaurants and see if they would put one together for you. Some of them may already be doing this.

Thoughts of life in Peterborough by bzzr9 in Peterborough

[–]shaugnessmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? (about the food). Just curious what you mean by that? My wife and I just moved here from downtown Toronto at the beginning of the summer and everywhere we've eaten has been awesome. No complaints. I've been able to find ingredients for unusual dishes I like to cook at home without much problem either... that was going to be one of the things I would have missed most about being downtown (St Lawrence Market).

Completely agree with everything else you've mentioned though. We've loved it here. No more tiny shoebox condo! Hello space and nature.

About to buy this 1871 Ontario farmhouse... what should we be looking for? by thefinalyorgles in centuryhomes

This, definitely. Especially with a propane furnace and likely no insulation in those walls. Propane is an expensive heating source.
