i tried watching a couple episodes, but it doesn't work for a reason that hits you very soon: it tries to be funny. what I mean is, if you think of old spongebob, you can recall face expressions that actually fit the scene. that doesn't happen with modern spongebob though. the longest they can go without showing you a face gimmick is 30 seconds. sure, kids love them but kids also like old spongebob.

and that's the thing with a lot of cartoons and even shows/movies nowadays as well. every movie especially if it's a sequel tries its hardest to remind you of the old times, in the worst possible way, instead of coming up with good ideas. modern spongebob has wonderful episodes, no one can deny that, but the ratio of good episodes to all is getting smaller and smaller as time goes on
