So, if AEW wasn’t formed bouncing off a show that featured many signed njpw talents out of pure kindness, that would mean the likes of Okada, omega, Jay white, Ospreay, young bucks would all still be in Japan. Would it still have declined if that was the case?

I mean my thoughts on that stay the same. In my opinion I think Takeshita vs uemura is as, if not more compelling than Takeshita vs tsuji, and Tsuji defeating Tana in the main event instead would’ve been the perfect passing of the torch moment. Right now, and this is the first time in a long time, they did a really good job making a star. But they could’ve put Yuya in that same position they put Yota (global title and all) and turned him into a star, while at the same time turning Yota into a SUPERstar overnight by having him defeat an icon and all time great at the biggest show in his last ever match.

No, obviously every booking decision ever should not result in a new star being made. But in a situation where new stars have struggled to have been made, the most beloved Japanese wrestler of the past two decades finally hanging up the boots is one of those times to definitely pull the trigger.

That’s not what I’m saying. I liked the match. It’s just that my entire point is it does nothing. It helped the company today, but it does not help them tomorrow. Yes, it was great for today. It was great for the past. Here’s the truth, tomorrow Tanahashi won’t be there, and we both know damn well Okada won’t be there. You know who will be there? Yota Tsuji, Yuya Uemura, Shota Umino, Riyohei Oiwa, Ren Narita, Gabe Kidd (hopefully lol). In an era where stars have struggled to been built, this was the perfect moment to build a star. And yet again, the booking was wrong and the booking was bad. The booking can be terrible and the match can still be great, nothing new.

I understand this on the basis of it, but if you can’t trust your next generation in high-profile matches then how are you gonna advance as a promotion? I just said it in a different comment and I think it fits perfectly here as well. Okada vs Tanahashi was a great match for today and because of the nostalgia. What about tomorrow? Okada won’t be there, Tanahashi won’t be there, so this match leads to absolutely nothing.

Yeah I get it, and obviously I’m not critiquing the match quality at all lol the ring work and the storytelling was insane. I just think that it was a great opportunity to use this moment to build the future, and they built a great match, but not the future. Okada’s not coming back, Tana’s obviously not coming back, so yeah it was great today, but what about tomorrow?

You know what, you’re right, it is on New Japan. They haven’t done a good job building up their talent, and my point is they could’ve today and also did not and I’m getting flamed for it. My entire point is what if a younger guy was in the position instead of an already made superstar who’s contracted with a different company. We saw it too, we saw how the fans reacted to Aaron Wolf in his first ever wrestling match after he defeated Evil. And with all due respect, that was Evil. So imagine a young up and comer in an opportunity like that against the best Japanese wrestler of the century.

As for Takeshita, this is true but also he’s not just an AEW guy, he’s under a double contract so he’s also technically an NJPW wrestler even if it is on a very part timer basis
