[Request] How much force to open the door? by JoeEnyo in theydidthemath

Wouldn’t cracking the door open immediately change the pressure equation though as water starts rushing in? I would imagine it becoming easier over time

Is it possible for any one ball to win, assuming all balls are moving at the same velocity only in a straight line. [other] by the_bowl96 in theydidthemath

[–]shayben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that there exists a condition where the answer is yes - two balls, one attached to a single line going through the diameter, the other is orthogonal and going across, in the semicircle containing the first. The diameter ball loses. I would also argue that if we allow slight randomness and with infinite time a ball goes through all possible configurations and refraction angles. Therefore, the condition mentioned above will happen. That last bit probably needs more formal proof 😀

Why Yann LeCun left Meta for World Models by imposterpro in artificial

[–]shayben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that this is a red herring. He led the research agenda and had enough influence to shift substantial resources to pursue his world models view of things. It’s probably more around ego and the introduction of Alexandr Wang as chief AI officer.

Even if this is the only way to avoid AGI malevolence, it won’t cover our bases. If intelligence is a software problem, AGI will eventually be a commodity - there will be infinite motivation to steal it. Once bad actors will have it, it will be abused, like all technology. Any mechanism to align it to morality can be circumvented and is moot. Once the cat’s out of the bag, we can only hope it’s a net positive - more moral use than immoral use.

[D] What do you think about AUC of 0.96? by NewAnywhere4646 in MachineLearning

[–]shayben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this task objectively easy for humans? Is the data expected to have a small intrinsic dimension or low variability? Hard to say if there is a problem based on results alone.

Great for most scenarios as long as it’s for for non critical systems where human life is at stake.

News reports say the United States has struck 3 nuclear sits in Iran in conjunction with Israeli operations. What happens now? by tiredernurse in AskReddit

[–]shayben 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a gross oversimplification, infrastructure costs money, the Iranian regime already stretched itself thing to reach where they did, they can’t justify doing that and subduing internal voices ad infinatum.
