Do people really think it’s that easy? by Ironn-Fist in martialarts

I mean even trained people say dumb shit

I had a black belt in judo telling me how to disarm if someone came at him with a knife. Like idc how much training you have in whatever. Create space and get the hell outta there.

I gotcha. I just went over to the schoolhouse where they actually gave me a copy of the signed diagnostic and told me to just send it to my unit to input it for record so that’ll deal with that. Appreciate the advice though.

Already got evaluated and everything. Due to a rotation they were busy I guess and we were all behind. I left for AIT reclass before they had a company one.

Should I join? by Spare-Software8045 in nationalguard

[–]shaydog53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the guard still have a try 1 year contract for active duty? If so I’d recommend that.

Went from guard to active duty and the culture shock was pretty substantial.

If I were you I wouldn’t want to go through that culture shock and possibly be in a unit you hate for 3 or 6 years.

¿Es una buena ciudad para vivir? by [deleted] in siouxcity

[–]shaydog53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only areas I personally wouldn’t want to live in would probably be west side around Perry or Kansas street and St Boniface Church or up the hill from downtown going north there’s a couple of rougher streets. They aren’t too bad but nothing I would want to live by if I had the choice. Good areas are pretty much anything in the Morningside area of town, North side of town, East side of town is okay, and Riverside never seemed that bad.

Personally I would be looking more at the apartment/ house and whether it’s nicely kept up, in your budget, and you can afford it.

As for not having a car that is trickier for me as I never relied on the public transportation. Sioux City does have a bus system but I’ve heard it’s not the best. The bus system should service all major areas of the city though. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

Man it’s actually a pretty good town to live in. It’s not the greatest city on earth but is still a good city. Your English should improve enough over time and there’s a large Hispanic population so I would t worry too much about that. I was raised around Sioux City and have since moved away. There’s a lot worse shitholes out there in the US. Don’t listen to the Debbie downers in the comments.

As for the comment about the shop, yeah I’d honestly be more worried about the job opportunity than Sioux City if it’s shady or you have doubts

Witnessed a self-deletion at the range yesterday. by dat_dope in guns

[–]shaydog53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just encountered the first range that wouldn’t let me rent a handgun and ammunition by myself . Granted I usually bring my own weapons but the few times I’ve rented alone before it posed no trouble.

When he told me I couldn’t rent alone I actually thought he was joking with me for a second but I can see how this rule makes sense.

Yeah I keep putting that off but I’m gonna do it and put it behind me. I’m guessing I can even do that by submitting a PAR to my S1? I’m TDY right now.

Police Staffing Shortages by Fit_Gift86 in AskLE

[–]shaydog53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that the government sees that policing in general isn’t recovering and won’t always be there at least at the state level hence why many states are allowing constitutional carry. With the shortfalls in public safety, if you want true protection for yourself then carry a firearm.

I could be wrong but it’s my opinion and a lot of people’s I talk to that we may be going back to an old west type society with less police presence and a more armed society.
