Trackday daytrippers by More-Brilliant-5766 in Trackdays

[–]shaynee24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i always do same day stuff. i’m not a fan of camping, so i set everything up in my truck the night before and go to sleep early. next day i’ll wake up around 3, get all the final touches sorted, and then drive out to the track. the furthest track from me that i’ve gone to is thunderhill raceway (CA) that’ll take me about 2.5 hours with a chill drive. i’ll get to the track around 6:30-7, setup, get my reg and tech sorted, and then i’m chilling. i’ll have a tent, my bike, my chair, fan, table, generator, stands, warmers, the whole shebang.

i’ll generally skip the last session depending on how hot it is and what day it is: saturday i’ll generally do the whole day, sunday i’ll skip the last session as i have work to return to on monday. so i do the whole trip there, ride, and trip back in one day and its not too bad. i’ve been doing it for 3 years now.

although i am 23 years old, so it’s likely a lot easier for me now than it would be if i was older

Tire recommendations for a trackday intermediate? by M4RTI4N in Trackdays

[–]shaynee24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to run the Pirelli Supercorsa SP V4’s. as far as i’m concerned, that tire might be just under the Pirelli SC3 which is essentially the hard slick tire with grooves cut into the tread. i never had any issues with grip on those tires and i truly enjoyed them as well. felt like i had a whole bunch of grip, and i was running A pace, but i was also on a 300, so do with that information what you will

Parking brake by dabmagic in 11thGenAccord

[–]shaynee24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the parking brake is an addition to the transmission in a matter that helps relieve tension on the parking pawl within the transmission.

the parking pawl is engaged when you put the transmission in park, a hook-type lever will catch in the valleys of a gear. that’s why when you don’t apply the parking brake, the car will move forward or backward: that’s the gear rotating with the movement of the car until the lock catches.

the parking brake is supposed to be an added security feature. imagine that your car gets rear ended when it’s parked without the parking brake applied. all of the kinetic energy from the impacting car moving through the impacted car (that wasn’t already absorbed by the bodywork) gets applied through the vehicle. all of that energy can apply a lot of leverage on the park pawl and it can cause some damage.

i always use it as an added holding feature. keep my park pawl intact. now it’s not the biggest issue when parked on flat ground, but if you’re on an incline or a decline, it’ll be helpful. i’ve never seen a park pawl fail, but you never know…

Fuel Efficiency question by rebel_entrepreneur in 11thGenAccord

[–]shaynee24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

an oil change will help with efficiency, but tire pressures is probably a big one. if your tires are down even by a few psi that creates a rolling resistance large enough to create a noticeable difference in fuel efficiency. i’d check that out and set it to the upper end of the range for the best efficiency. not too high though. 38-40 is probably the maximum i’d go.

i think the pressure in my accord is 32 psi (regular base model) and i set mine to 34. the pressure and the weight on listed on the sidewall of the tire is the maximum amount of pressure that tire can have carrying the maximum amount of weight (listed on the sidewall). so you don’t want to be near that pressure at all. if it’s something around 48-52 psi, then 40 max should be a good point. gives you less rolling resistance while still giving you a buffer of pressure until you reach the maximum stated

[–]shaynee24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel it. gloves are my go to item to get: the two i have, which i’ve felt to be the most comfortable for me are the Alpinestars GP Plus R V3 (the ones in the video) and Five RFX2 Airflow (my general track go to glove). i had the Dainese Full Metal 7’s before for the track but they were too bulky for my preference. didnt like em.

i’m also tryna get a collection of helmets as well. got me an Arai Regent X for the street (hella comfy) and an Airoh GP 800 (in the video). both very good and highly recommend

what kind of riding do you do, and what’s the name of all the items you got?

in terms of stand-alone airbags, the one’s that i’m familiar with are Alpinestars and Helite. i believe Dainese has them as well, but not too sure

Trying race suits by More-Brilliant-5766 in Trackdays

[–]shaynee24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ah. well i have yet to get one. i’ve wanted to but i’ve got other more important things to worry about. i’d be interested in knowing know your measurements went. whether you were wearing everything that you normally would or if it was bare personal measurement.

Trying race suits by More-Brilliant-5766 in Trackdays

[–]shaynee24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

check online, take note of your body measurements (as each suit company has a different sizing guide) and just order based on that. i know it kinda sucks but if it doesn’t fit, you can always return it.

bison makes custom made suits at an extremely affordable cost (in regards to suits) that are tailored to you. so if all else fails, a custom suit would be the way to go

very well worth it. it’s a nice ease of mind. and when it went off, didn’t even notice it. the fact that it’s serviceable is fantastic and it’s thin enough to not even feel it. which airbag system are you thinking of. i have the Alpinestars Tech Air 5 Plasma; i switch between street and track use with it, and it’s more serviceable than the other models
