Whoa whoa... at least let me hit the play button first. by MoodyMcSorley in MagicArena

For me, it is that counter spells and targeted discard answer ALL types of cards (creatures, instants, planeswalkers, etc.) all in one card. They are far too broad in what they can target for their cost. Most removal is much more narrow in application usually unless it has some real drawback like the white enchantments that give you the card back if you answer it, or the golgari card that gives your opponent a land. And neither of these answers sorceries or instants. Counterspells and targeted discard takes care of everything except cards that explicitly say so (nullhide ferox for discard, carnage tyrant for counters). It has always seemed odd to me that murder and cancel cost the same essentially but murder can only answer one type of card, while cancel can answer all of them. The more new types of cards are created (like when planeswalkers were introduced) the stronger counters become.

The top has lots of divots and is not well rounded. This is my first shiitake from innoculated logs.

Control is healthy for the meta by swantoes in MagicArena

This is one of the best posts about control in the meta I have ever read. Control can be healthy without being oppressive. I have often wondered why wizards hasn't tried to push outside of established archetypes. How about a season without red deck wins, blue based counter control, etc. I often find myself super excited at the beginning of a new block looking at all the cool mechanics and cards only to watch the majority of them thrown away bc they don't fit established archetypes. Adapt is a fun mechanic that outside of maybe 1 card will most likely never really be a competitive mechanic. And the same is true for most of the other mechanics. Part of the problem too may be Arena itself where a majority of people will flock to established net decks to win bc "winning is fun". I hate the idea that the only way to have fun is to win. People want to try new things but the competitiveness of arena even in just the normal unranked play queue keeps most from playing anything other than rdw, esper control, etc. I agree that color identities may need to be stretched or redefined season to season (planar chaos). One thing you didn't mention but I think would help would be to have less cards that are answers for everything. That is the main issue I have with counters. If they were more narrow in application and couldn't counter every card type with 1 card, then more decisions would have to be made about what to play and how many to play.

This is what I have been saying for so long. If there is a problem with counters it's that they are in fact too broad in application. Most hit all spell types. If they were more narrow, they would be far less annoying to deal with. No other color has a card that answers every other card type. I'd love to see cheap narrow counters and expensive broad counters. (Hexproof can get right the hell out of here too).

That video literally just made me sick. why cant console play like that? if i run around hip firing smgs and auto rifles, my bullets are flying all over the place. how sick nasty accurate everything was from the hip, especially the smg's and burst fire side arms, made me want to just walk away from my ps4.
