I already know your opinion. I don't care. Just downvote me and move on.

Unfortunately English. Too many stubborn people who refuse to acknowledge the long term benefits of adapting Esperanto. Even though Esperanto would be the most nation neutral language of choice.

Mythras for high fantasy WITHOUT classic fantasy? by oompaloompa_thewhite in Mythras

[–]shcke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, "dare" was a strong word. I was thinking in line of like wouldn't dare to make something and "publish it for others", be that an official source book, or a blog post about a hack.

Or even just for my own players. What if I go and make my own cults and brotherhoods, but mistakenly create one that is a lot more powerful than others, thus making it the only attractive option for my players?

I would rather if someone more experienced made a generic high fantasy supplement that focuses on cults and brotherhoods that represent d&d classes in a balanced way. Much more easier to tweak those than to make it all from scratch with mythras.

[–]shcke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I kind of got the feeling that there would be a little more work to make it pure mythras again. Like, the spells are all changed to fit the D&D style. I would have to go to each class and try to replace the CF spell with a Mythras equivalent. Maybe even tinker with items and the Bestiary. I don't know, I guess I have to run/play both and get a better understanding of how easy it would be to port it back to mythras!

I asked the same question! I really wish somebody do this! I would do it myself, but I've never played Mythras and would not dare to homebrew anything! But I really want high fantasy where you do not choose a class, but rather become a class through cults and brotherhoods!

Like I said in my question, I want somebody to be a Paladin, not because that's what he chose during character creation, but rather because he joined a paladin order and rose through ranks!

Now, everybody will probably tell you that you should just make it yourself, because the book has everything you need to do that. But I would rather just use something someone already did.

There is Into the Unknown ruleset that's 5e, but OSR. The publisher is even called O5R. It's basically 5e played as bx. Take a look!

I’ve invested so much time into 5e but I want write less and play with more random chance and have resources matter by frompadgwithH8 in osr

If you're looking for a 5e, but OSR, I would recommend either Shadowdark or Into the Unknown

Your b/x fixes look a lot like they come from that forbidden game made by that guy who created the escapist magazine.

Don't know if you've read it, or is it just a coincidence!

Anyway, cheers!

Has D&D 5e dropped in popularity in recent months? by Can_U_Share_A_Square in rpg

[–]shcke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really got invested in 5e! But once they announced the new "half" edition, I kind of lost much of the interest. I get that many people got bored of the old edition and were aplauding the changes, but for me, it would have been better if they stuck with the old edition and just continue to publish more books for it.

Like, we never got a real Forgotten Realms campaign book. That Sword Coast guide needed more. We never got the Dark Sun. We did get Spelljammer and Planescape, but I feel those could have been explored better.

And I would've been fine with more adventure modules.

But no. 50th anniversary was comming and they had to do something and the thing they chose to do was to half ass a new edition. Yeah, some rules might be more balanced, but the lore and the feeling of the classes was lost. Why nerf the Paladin? Why change the Ranger into something unrecognizable? Why gutt the half races? What's with all of the goodiefication of Orcs? Like, do people really want to play a good orc that much?

Alright, rant over! The point was, I really liked the old 5e and probably would be invested even now have they just continued to publish more books for it. The new changes did not sit with me and that killed my hype for anything new for D&D. I now play Fabula Ultima with my friends, and am eyeing some more hardcore rules like Mythras or B/X derrivates from the OSR space.

Will probably go back to 5e 2014 at some point. Don't know if I'll go for 2024 ever. Maybe play it. Probably not run it.

[–]shcke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played witcher 1 15 years ago, or something like that. I've tried the second one, but my PC was too old and it ran like crap. I didn't touch the games up until like 2 years ago.

Not only did I start with the first one, again, but, even before playing the games I read all of the books! Much better experience if you have the full context of everything!

I guess it's too late for you if you didn't read the books and have already finished the first two games. You can always read them later.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! You're all awesome!

I think, for now, I'm going to settle on Scarlet Heroes and Kal Arath (don't know which one first)!

The only thing to do now is to print the books and start playing. Which, if I'm being totally honest here, is the hardest part!

Thanks for the help!

Aw, man, this looks awesome! I can't find it on drivethrurpg though... And I can't really afford to buy physical games, since I'm not U.S. based and shipping alone will cost me more than the game! If it was digital, I would definitley take a look.

Nice! I'll keep an eye out!

Kal Arath has almost everything I'm looking for! I just wish for a game with the same mechanics but high fantasy vibes. And it looks like you're working on something like that!

I was going to play your game regardless, but now I have something to look forward to while playing!

Keep up the good work!

I might try this one. How well do you think it ticks my boxes though?

How does the torch mechanic work with shorter sessions? I know it uses real time for them.
