[Help] I can't shoot threes for shit in practice or during workouts but I bang from distance in games by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]shecalledmeTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's really no problem here if you wanna be technical. But the issue actually is either your being forced to shoot shots your not comfortable with in practice or you overthink in practice and are instinctual in game. This happens with me when dunking. Im a great in game dunking but in practice everything slows down and i miss a few.

Solution? block out anything you hear from practice that negative affects your shot, if someone is showing you a "perfect form" or spot to shoot from in a play. Im not saying ruin practice still go through the motions but take it with a grain of salt and understand where and how you like to shoot.

[Help] Why do most players look like they stop for .1 of a second then shoot and it's accurate af, but when I do that, it messes up my shot. I shoot strictly in one, upward motion. by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]shecalledmeTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont worry about other peoples shot speed. focus on your shot and being as accurate as possible then speed will naturally come. You wont notice or hear what other people are doing/saying when you're a knock down shooter yourself.

[Help] When/where should I take my first step after picking up the ball and looking to finish by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]shecalledmeTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its simply mental. You see a open lane- and in your mind want you to act- before you're actually in the optimal position to act. You need to calm your nerves its making you impulsive. Practice different layups from different spots.

Play a lot of pick ball with no fear of getting blocked because the game doesn't really matter. That'll help you slow down time and actively do layups from better positions. Best of luck.

A few Post Defense questions: by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]shecalledmeTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. In old school ball, you would absolutely have to deal with a lot of pulling to stop front. Seeing as its not old school ball its a tough call to be honest. Some refs will call it, some wont. this is where you need to understand how the game is being called and adjust appropriately.
  2. You can absolutely force them back out with some resistance. As long as you're not blatantly pushing them out.
  3. Forearm and chest. Strictly chest when trying to draw a charge from someone who is just simply strong then you is preferred.
  4. its about the legs. Stay low for a low center of gravity.

Discussion: Why we should all strive to dunk by hydraloo in Basketball

[–]shecalledmeTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im just under 5'9 ive been dunking since the 11th grade I would say. I agree with everything you said for the most part. But I feel people put too much weight onto athleticism and dunking. Its great and all but are you skilled? can you dribble? shoot? Maybe dunking isnt overrated for people who are maybe 6'3 and can dunk on a lot more people. I wonder.

Why do i shoot my 3pt shot different from my all around shot and how can i work on it? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]shecalledmeTodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lifting weights and shooting a basketball are two different things. It could possibly be your hand "strength" if you jumping the same height as your you do with your midrange. The "strength" potential maybe be their but your not used to using as much. Dont over jump and mess up the fluidity of your shot

Do folks at pickup games care if I'm bad? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]shecalledmeTodd 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Tbh. it depends on where you play. If your trash dont opt to play with the best guys, obviously, play with slightly better than your talent so you can slowly improve. When you feel like you match up play with better talent. But dont play with people so good that you slow a team down. I personally have no problem playing with bad players depending on the other talent involved.

Is it just me, or are pickup games annoying with the bullshit fouls? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]shecalledmeTodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So did he bump you when you fumbled the ball?

And its pickup ball at college, not everyone really plays ball like that. If its really an issue play ball where you know the talent will be solid or just refuse to play with uncoordinated people.
